Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker Wins Sudbury Sprint Triathlon!
The Sudbury Sprint Triathlon on May 11th was a wildly successful fundraiser for the Sudbury Park and Recreation Department. Sold out for months, the race's line up of 500+ athletes included an Olympian, several professional triathletes, many top local triathletes, a wheelchair athlete, and a whole bunch of people looking to have a good time on a Sunday morning.
What a close race! Jarrod Shoemaker edged out fellow pro and good friend, Ethan Brown, by one second to take first place in a time of 33:26. Alicia Kaye, the first female finisher (fifth place overall), completed the course in 37:05 with Karen Mackin earning second place in a time of 41:06. The mixed relay team of Tracy Potter and Don Vescio placed first in the relay division with a time of 38:22 over the mixed relay team of Frank Kjaersgaard, Tina Wang, and Nicholas Chin who completed the course in 39:19.
Quadmultisport, the official bicycle mechanic for the FIRM race series, provided support on the bike course; Summit Spring Water provided refreshing spring water for participants at the finish line; Mind Body Connect and Sky Massage Therapy provided soothing massages to interested participants, and Align Systems provided free foot alignment services. At the awards ceremony, Quadmultisport conducted a drawing for a free Quintana Roo wetsuit, a pair of Desoto tri shorts, and a computerized diet analysis from Vescio Multisport Performance Services.
After the race, Jarrod Shoemaker signed “SHOECREW Triathlon” t shirts as part of a fundraising effort to bring his coaches to the Olympics with him in August. The next two FIRM events are the Lions Spring Sprint Triathlon (pool swim) in Marlboro, MA on May 18 followed by the US Coast Guard Duathlon in Bourne, MA on May 24.
