Blood, Stum-Jetton Capture Top Honors
at Foran Colon Cancer 5K

HARRISBURG, PA--The William F. Foran Colon Cancer Prevention
5K, held on June 21, 2008, continues to be the only race in the
Harrisburg area to raise awareness of colorectal cancer prevention.
Two-hundred-nineteen runners and walkers participated in this
year’s event which was sponsored by Penn State’s Milton
S. Hershey Medical Center. All proceeds will be donated to the
Cancer Genetics Program at the Medical Center. This year, over
$14,000 was raised to help fund research and provide colorectal
cancer genetic counseling.
Leading the pack along the flat Riverfront course in 16:30
was Harrisburg Marathon record holder, Rick Blood. Coming in
second was Masters standout, Tadd Morris in 16:58. The race for
third was close between Tyler Erhard (17:19) and Scott Shaeffer
(17:19.9).
For the women, Vicki Stum-Jetton took top honors in 18:22
followed by Wendy Barrett in 18:32. (Vicki and Wendy were high
school competitors from 1986-1988 when they both competed at
the State level; Vicki ran for Cedar Cliff and Wendy for Cedar
Crest). Coming in third for the women was Masters runner Riva
Johnson in 19:25 followed by 18-year-old Alastasia McDowell in
19:45.
Prize money was awarded to the top three men and women finishers
as well as first male/female Masters runners. Age-group awards
were sterling silver necklaces with a “Strength” pendant
for the women. Male age-group winners were awarded “Run
Strong” watches.
