Grand National World - Grand National 2009 AintreeGrand National 2009 Often called the world's greatest steeplechase, The Grand National is one of the most famous steeplechases in the world. It is a unique test of horsemanship for the rider and also a test of a great significance for a horse. The course is nearly two and a quarter miles in length and has 16 unique fences.Horses and riders have to contend with drop fences that is to say that the landing side of the fence is lower than the take off side and this means the horse approaching the fence is unaware of this fact until in the air. There are also fences where the landing side is higher than the take off side and this is an extra test of ability for the horses that run in the race.Halfway through the course is a fence with a 90 degree turn after the jump which is another chance to test a horse and riders ability to stay balanced and at the end of four and a half miles there is a long run in to the finish line which when tired can take a lot of getting. All this adds up to a true test for horse and jockey and that is why The Grand National is the race that most jockeys owners and trainers want to win Horse Rating Odds Bookie Denman Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Paul Nicholls One of the most impressive winners of the Gold Cup for some years and his brilliant jumping would be an asset round Aintree. 16-1 Bet £10 Get £40 of Free Bets! Butlers Cabin Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Jonjo ONeill From a top stable and looked to have refound his enthusiasm till an unlucky faller at Bechers in 2008. 20-1 Bet £30 Get £30 Comply Or Die Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: David Pipe Likely to have a bit more weight but the style of his win in 2008 suggests he will be a threat to all. 20-1 Bet £30 Get £30 Snowy Morning Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Willie Mullins Could well improve on last year's good showing and could well get the help of Ruby Walsh now Hedgehunter has retired. 24-1 £25 Free Bet King Johns Castle Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Arthur Moore Given a good ride to conserve his stamina to finish second in 2008. Could he go one better in 2009? 25-1 Bet £30 Get £30 Hear The Echo Age: 7 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Mouse Morris Young horse who won Irish National at Fairyhouse in 2008. Could make up into a leading Aintree candidate. 25-1 £50 No Lose Bet Iris De Balme Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Sean Curran Sean Curran's gelding proved a major shock when winning the Scottish National at 66/1. Is a big double on the cards? 25-1 £25 Free Bet and £25 Bonus! Miko De Beauchene Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Robert and Sally Alner Gained two hard fought victories under Robert Thornton in 2008, including the Welsh National. Looks just the sort to improve the poor record of French breds in this race. 25-1 Free £100 Bet Himalayan Trail Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Sue Smith Proved stamina when winning over 4 miles at Uttoxeter. Needs some more experience but a very interesting contender. 25-1 Free £25 Bet Gwanako Age: 5 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Paul Nicholls Looks a youngster with a big future judged by his win in the Topham in 2008. But would the National in 2009 be a year too soon? 25-1 £50 No Lose Bet Simon Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: John Spearing Has fell at the same fence in 2007 and 2008 but is usually a pretty safe conveyance. Sure to be aimed at the race again. 33-1 £25 Free Bet and £25 Bonus! Slim Pickings Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Tom Taaffe Irish challenger who looks set to become a standing dish in the Grand National but has he quite got the stamina to win the race? 33-1 Free £100 Bet Character Building Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: John Quinn Hasn't had many races over fences so could still have some improvement to find. An interesting candidate for 2009. 33-1 Bet £10 Get £40 of Free Bets! Cloudy Lane Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Donald McCain Jnr Likely to have loads more weight for 2009 but stable could focus him exclusively at this race. 33-1 Bet £30 Get £30 Royal County Star Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Tony Martin The betting market might be the best guide to his chances.
33-1 Free £25 Bet Old Benny Age: 7 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Alan King Put previous jumping concerns behind him when winning at Cheltenham Festival and ran a decent race in Scottish National. Could make up into a leading contender. 33-1 Bet £10 Get £40 of Free Bets! An Accordion Age: 7 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: David Pipe His lack of experience over fences could be counteracted by his class which has seen him win four out of seven races over the big obstacles. 33-1 Free £100 Bet Garde Champetre Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Enda Bolger Had looked to have lost the form that made him such an expensive purchase but moving to Enda Bolger has transformed this horse. Will get lots of publicity if Nina Carberry keeps the ride. 33-1 Free £25 Bet Halcon Genelardais Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Alan King Top class staying chaser who would be at the top of the weights if allowed to take part. 33-1 Free £25 Bet Bothar Na Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Willie Mullins Hails from classy stable but failure to win since 2006 is counting against his handicap mark. Will probably need a win before the weights are released to have a chance of getting in. 40-1 Free £25 Bet Irish Raptor Age: 9 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies Plenty of experience of Aintree fences and looks the ideal type to run in a National 40-1 £50 No Lose Bet Turko Age: 5 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Paul Nicholls Always had a bit of class but can he translate that to winning a very big race? 40-1 Bet £10 Get £40 of Free Bets! Patsy Hall Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Tony Martin May need to iron out his jumping before he becomes a top fancy but Tony Martin's runners should always be respected. 40-1 Free £25 Bet Gungadu Age: 8 Weight:0-0 Jockey: Trainer: Paul Nicholls Slight question mark about his ability to see out this extreme trip but would be a very interesting runner. 40-1 Bet £10 Get £40 of Free Bets!
