Swimathon 2009 is coming to a pool near you. So why not join everyone in the pool for the world’s biggest swim, and help raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.Swimathon is a nationwide event, held at more than 500 pools across the UK, and will be taking place in 2009 from the 16 – 19 April. It consists of a variety of distance challenges for all ages and abilities, the pinnacle being the 5k individual or team event!Over the past two years, 30,000 swimmers have taken part in Swimathon and have raised more than £3 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation. This year, Swimathon is looking to raise more money for charity by encouraging everyone in the UK to get in the pool for the world’s biggest swim and make 2009 a huge success. 70% of funds raised by participants in the 2009 national Swimathon will be used by Marie Curie Cancer Care to fund and support their services (www.mariecurie.org.uk). The remaining 30% will be used by The Swimathon Foundation (www.swimathonfoundation.org).Registrations will open in January 2009 so make sure you revisit us then, to find out how you can be part of the world’s biggest fundraising swim!Swimathon 2008 – Thank you!Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation would like to thank all the thousands of swimmers, generous sponsors and the host pools for their fantastic support of Swimathon 2008 and for raising nearly £1.7m!Swimathon 2008 fundraising officially closed on 30th September 2008.
