Unfortunately a miscue on pit road left the #44 UPS Toyota at the rear of the field during the early stages of the race. The team was unable to rebound relegating Reutimann to a 25th place finish in Sunday’s race. Reutimann started from the fourth position after a strong qualifying effort on Friday at PIR. The early laps of the race found the #44 slipping through the field but lap times remained quick enough for Reutimann to maintain his position within the top-10 cars. The first caution flag fell on lap 19 for a two car accident with Reutimann coming to pit road to the attention of his pit crew, reporting his car was loose upon entry to the turns. Crew chief Ryan Pemberton responded with a wedge and air pressure adjustment returning the #44 Toyota to the track in the 10th position. Full Story   REUTIMANN FINISHED 31ST IN NO. 99 BEST WESTERN TOYOTA AT PHOENIX AVONDALE, Ariz. (November 8, 2008) – David Reutimann finished 31st in the No. 99 Best Western Toyota Camry at Phoenix International Raceway after enduring problems early in the race.  “I was coming off the corner and the Best Western Toyota just came out from underneath me, late exit and I hit the fence,” Reutimann said. “We lost about four laps because we had to look at the steering and make repairs to ensure nothing was rubbing or dragging.”  Reutimann qualified 26th Saturday morning and at the start of the 201-lap race he was tight on exit.  Despite an ill-handling race car Reutimann advanced to 14th place by Lap 22 when the first caution of the event occurred. As the Zephyrhills, Fla. native entered pit road, crew chief Jerry Baxter called for four fresh Goodyear tires and fuel.  When the pace car exited the track, Reutimann was back to business at lap 27 in 13th place. Baxter radioed Reutimann four laps later to tell him that he had turned one of the fastest laps on the track. It showed as the No. 99 Best Western Toyota moved into 11th place. Closing in on the top 10 at Lap 36, Reutimann’s car jumped out from underneath him and hit the outside retaining wall hard enough to cause a flat tire and steering problems.  The caution flag then waved at Lap 38 and Reutimann entered pit road for the first of a series of pit stops to assess and repair the damage. “The guys did a great job making repairs to the No. 99 Best Western Toyota,” Reutimann said. After multiple pit stops, Reutimann was four laps down and in 39th place at Lap 52. Reutimann did his best to make up as much ground as possible. In the end, he crossed the finish line in 31st place on lap 201.  With one race remaining on the schedule, he is currently in seventh place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers’ standings. Next week, Reutimann returns to the No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Live coverage of the NASCAR Nationwide Series event on Saturday, November 15th on ESPN 2 begins at 4 p.m. ET and 4:30 p.m. ET on MRN Radio.
