Men
The Swarthmore area provides a beautiful backdrop for some of the most competitive Division III Cross Country in the Middle Atlantic region. The Swarthmore "Garnet Harriers" have perennially been a power within conference competition and have had several National Championship qualifiers in recent years. In fact, since the first cross country season at Swarthmore in 1913, the Garnet have won an incredible 70 percent of all their dual meets and have not had a losing season in the 1980's or '90's. This past season the Garnet finished 9th at the Mid-East Regional.
Women
Cross Country began at the college in the fall of 1983. In such a short time frame the Garnet harriers have achieved numerous accomplishments, including two conference championships and consistent top three finishes. Most recently the Garnet finished second at the Centennial Conference Championships and third at the Seven Sisters Championship. Several runners have also gone to the NCAA Championships.
The Garnet's five-mile home course is a challenging one, winding its way through the 325 rolling wooded acres which make up the campus. In addition to home and away dual meets, the squad also competes in several large invitationals with Division I and II schools. Our competitive schedule is designed to challenge and develop each athlete. Training begins in the middle of August and culminates in early November at the Centennial Conference Championships, the NCAA Mid-East Regional and the NCAA Championship.

Men & Women
Swarthmore's track and field program strives to provide a comprehensive and balanced program designed to meet each ability level. This approach to training has produced numerous school records in addition to personal bests. Competing within the Centennial Conference, the Garnet have consistently finished in the top four places including championships for the women in 1997 and 1998. As members of the Centennial we compete against similar institutions such as Johns Hopkins, Haverford, Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, Ursinus, Muhlenberg, Bryn Mawr and Western Maryland.
Our competitive season begins in early December and is finished in late May. We have a full schedule of competitions both indoor and outdoor. In addition to our conference competition we often travel to New England for some large invitationals and head south for a spring training trip.
