Beavers turned in one of their best efforts of the season, but it was not enough on the road against the Giants in the first round of the Regional Playoffs.  Nelson Ekeh tipped in a three-point attempt by AJ Gold at the end of regulation to tie the game at 74 and send it into overtime.  At the end of the first extra period, AJ Carson sank one of two free throws to put ARC up by two with nine second left, but Sequoias was able to break down the ARC defense and score with 1.5 second remaining, putting the game into a second OT.  The Beavers wore down, missing key free throws and giving up a couple of costly offensive rebounds, but the game was not decided until the finals seconds.  Darren Lee led six players in double figures with 22 points.  Ekeh finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds while Mike Selling added 15 points and nine boards.  Gold chipped in 14 points, Carson had 13, and point guard Jared Stigall contributed 11 points. february 22, 2008 ARC 99, Sierra 70  21-12 Overall 9-5 Conference The Beavers capped off the Big 8 season with a win over the Wolverines.  ARC finished conference play in a tie for third with Santa Rosa, and earned the 12th seed in the post season playoffs.  The Beavers will travel to Sequoias this Friday in the first round of the NorCal playoffs.  Against Sierra, ARC controlled the boards and received some balanced scoring to earn the win.  Jared Stigall led the Beavers with 20 points and five assists while Darren Lee, AJ Gold and AJ Carson each totaled 16 points.  Nelson Ekeh finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Mike Selling added 10 points and 15 boards as ARC was able to control the inside game. february 19, 2008 ARC 79, Modesto 74 20-12 Overall 8-5 Conference The Beavers built a lead of as much as 15 points in the first half, but the sharp-shooting Pirates would not go away.  With about six minutes left in the game, Modesto cut ARC’s lead down to two before sophomore point guard Jared Stigall took control of the contest.  Stigall hit a three-pointer off a fast break and then 30 second later he hit another three out of transition.  After a Modesto time out, Stigall, who totaled 15 points in the game, then picked the Pirate point guard and finished the lay up to put the Beavers up by 10.  From there, the team hit its free throws to seal the win.  Darren Lee finished with 22 points and a season-high 10 rebounds, and Nelson Ekeh added 17 points and 12 boards.  february 14, 2008 ARC 73, Sacramento City 59    19-12 Overall    7-5 Conference Due to construction at the Panther gym, the Big 8 game was played at Cosumnes River, but it was the Beavers who felt right at home.  The ARC defense held Sac City to under 40% shooting for the game, and the offense put up a balanced attack as the Beavers moved back into a tie for third place in conference and solidified their playoff chances.  AJ Gold and Jared Stigall each totaled 17 points to lead four players in double figures.  Darren Lee finished with 16 and Nelson Ekeh added 13 points.  Mike Selling had nine points and as many rebounds. february 12, 2008 ARC 107, Cosumnes River 66  18-12 Overall   6-5 Conference The Beavers came out on fire and combined it with some stingy defense to clip the Hawks in the Big 8 contest.  AJ Gold erupted for a career-high 34 points, shooting a sizzling 13 of 20 from the floor, including six out of seven beyond the three point line.  Jared Stigall went for 23 points, hitting five out of seven treys, and the sophomore point guard added 12 assists and eight steals to his game totals.  Darren Lee connected on four of his six three point attempts and finished with 14 points, and Marcus Thompson finished in double figures with 11 points.  As a team, ARC hit 18 of 35 three pointers.  Mike Selling led the team with 11 rebounds and anchored a touch Beaver defense.  Every player on the ARC roster scored in the game. february 8, 2008 Santa Rosa 81, ARC 78  17-12 Overall  5-5 Conference For the second game in a row, the Beavers let a lead in the final minute slip away as the Bear Cubs edged ARC in the battle for third place in the Big 8.  ARC led by as many as six with just over a minute to play, but could not put down key shots or gather in important rebounds, allowing Santa Rosa the advantage come seeding time for playoffs.  The Beavers had five players score in double figures.  AJ Gold led the team with 17 points, hitting 7-of-11 shots from the floor, including three out of four from the three-point line. Jared Stigall finished with 15 points, Darren Lee and Nelson Ekeh each contributed 12, and Mike Selling added 11 points. february 5, 2008 Diablo Valley 58, ARC 54 17-11 Overall  5-4 Conference Repeating the pattern from the first half of the Big 8 season, the Beavers dropped two in a row, setting up a must-win situation in their next game against Santa Rosa.  Against the Vikings, ARC led at the half and held on to a slim lead with 1:14 remaining, but did not score the rest of the game.  Diablo Valley pulled down two key offensive rebounds in that stretch, and made three of six free throws to earn the win.  Nelson Ekeh had 17 points and nine rebounds in another outstanding performance, and Mike Selling added six points and 10 boards.  AJ Gold finished with 14 points. february 1, 2008 Delta 87, ARC 73 17-10 Overall 5-3 Conference The Beavers fell behind the Mustangs by 19 at the half, and, despite outscoring Delta in the second half, could not cut the lead to less than 12 in the Big 8 loss.  AJ Gold led the ARC offense with 22 points, Nelson Ekeh turned in an impressive double-double, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and AJ Carson added 10 points and eight boards. january 29, 2008 ARC 93, Sierra 82 17-9 Overall  5-2 Conference The Beavers finished the first half of Big 8 play with an impressive come-from-behind road win over the Wolverines.  After trailing by as much as 17 in the first half, ARC picked up its offense to cut Sierra’s lead to six at the half.  Sierra, which hit 12 threes in the first half, cooled off in the second half.  The Beavers took their first lead of the game with 12:16 remaining, but could not pull away from the relentless pressure from the Wolverines.  Unlike previous league games, ARC was able to ice the game by hitting 8-of-10 free throws over the final 1:13.  Jared Stigall led the team with 24 points, Darren Lee finished with 23, Nelson Ekeh powered his was to 17 points, and AJ Carson added 10.  Mike Selling collected nine points and 11 rebounds for ARC, which goes into the second round of Big 8 play with a five-game winning streak. january 25, 2008 ARC 71, Modesto 68  16-9 Overall    4-2 Conference The Beavers put together an impressive first half against the Pirates en route a 20-point advantage at the intermission.  ARC ran the floor and hit open shots, leading by double digits most of the first 20 minutes.  But the second half was another story.  After nine minutes of play, ARC built its largest lead, 22 points, but Modesto’s three point shooters caught fire.  Seven minutes and six consecutive treys later, the Pirates cut the lead to two with a 23-3 run.  With just over two minutes remaining, Modesto took a two-point lead after hitting three of four free throws following a double technical foul against ARC.  The Pirates did not score the rest of the game.  Showing great resolve, the Beaver defense denied any open looks for Modesto while the offense patiently executed for open, high-percentage shots.  Darren Lee poured in 30 points, hitting 6-of-7 three pointers, and AJ Gold added 11 points. january 22, 2008 ARC 65, Sacramento City 56  15-9 Overall  3-2 Conference After a lethargic first half, the Beavers were able to overcome the rival Panthers in the Big 8 contest.  ARC built a five-point lead in the first half, but only put up 28 points in doing so.  The pace picked up in the second half, but ARC was able to control the tempo by controlling the inside game.  Post players Mike Selling and Nelson Ekeh led the Beavers with 16 and 15 points, respectively, and both collected six rebounds.  No other players finished in double figures for ARC. january 18, 2008 ARC 93, Cosumnes River 79 14-9 Overall 2-2 Conference The Beavers evened up their Big 8 record by beating the Hawks on the road.  Cosumnes River came out hot and held a small lead for the first five minutes.  But ARC was able to take control of the tempo of the game and build a 10-point lead at the half.  AJ Gold led four Beavers in double figures, hitting 10-of-18 shots for 22 points.  Darren Lee finished with 19 points, and Mike Selling had 17. Nelson Ekeh scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds.  Free throw shooting again made the game interesting, as ARC had a tough time putting away the Hawks, converting only 13 of 29 free throws. january 15, 2008 ARC 83, Santa Rosa 77 (OT) 13-9 Overall 1-2 Conference The Beavers picked up their first Big 8 win by squeaking out an overtime win over the Bear Cubs.  Leading by 14 with 5:58 left to play, ARC watched Santa Rosa catch fire and nail three pointers to cut the margin.  The Bear Cubs were able to tie up the score at 71-71 with a runner in the lane with 4.8 seconds left, completing a 23-9 run over the final six minutes.  ARC took control of the overtime, however, outscoring Santa Rosa 12-6 and earning the win.  Darren Lee led the team with 15 points, AJ Gold added 14, and Nelson Ekeh finished with 13 points and seven boards. january 11, 2008 Diablo Valley 72, ARC 56 12-9 Overall  0-2 Conference In the league home opener, the Beavers took on one of the hottest teams in the North, got behind early, and could not catch up to the Vikings.  Darren Lee led ARC with 15 points, AJ Gold poured in 14 points, and Nelson Ekeh had 13 points and seven rebounds.  The Beavers dug a hole in Big 8 play by dropping the first two games of conference play. january 8, 2008 Delta 62, ARC 57 12-8 Overall 0-1 Conference The Beavers opened Big 8 play on the road with the Mustangs, and missed free throws and open shots kept ARC from pulling off the upset.  After trailing by as much as 10 in the first half, the Beavers mounted a comeback in the second half and took the lead in a game that would go back and forth the entire 20 minutes.  Delta was able to convert its scoring opportunities in the final minutes and then hamper ARC enough to maintain a small lead.  As a team, ARC converted only 9-of-22 free throws, making it difficult to beat a good team on the road.  Darren Lee led the team with 18 points while Nelson Ekeh chipped in 10 and Mike Selling added 12 points and 10 rebounds. COLUMBIA COLLEGE TOURNAMENT december 27-29, 2007 ARC 76, Cañada 41 12-7 Overall 0-0 Conference The Beavers took yet another third place trophy home by dominating the Colts in the final round.  Holding Cañada to just 13 first half points, ARC kept up the stingy defense and balanced scoring attack to complete the preseason with a convincing win.  Jared Stigall, Marcus Thompson, and AJ Carson each finished with 12 points while Mike Selling and Nelson Ekeh each put in 11.  Darren Lee ended the game with 10 points. Two players had double-doubles:  Selling also added 13 rebounds, and Carson pulled down 10. Yuba 82, ARC 78  11-7 Overall  0-0 Conference Playing the 49ers for the third time this season, the Beavers again fell short at the end of the contest.  ARC won the first meeting 106-89, but Yuba edged the Beavers two weeks ago by tipping in a missed free throw with 10 seconds left.  ARC could not convert multiple opportunities to tie the score in its last possession.  Darren Lee led the Beavers in scoring with 24 points, hitting 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.  AJ Gold contributed 16 points, Mike Selling added 14, and Nelson Ekeh chipped in 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. ARC 101, Porterville 87 11-6 Overall 0-0 Conference The Beavers opened up a double-digit lead over the Pirates in the first half, and held by shooting a good percentage from the floor and controlling the boards.  Darren Lee led six ARC players in double figures, totaling 18 points.  AJ Gold, Jared Stigall, and Nelson Ekeh each finished with 15, and Mike Selling added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Eugene Crockett contributed a double-double, collecting 12 points and 10 boards for the Beavers. KRIS KRINGLE CLASSIC december 13-15, 2007 ARC 85, Santa Rosa 76 10-6 Overall 0-0 Conference Playing for third place for the fourth time in five tournaments this season, the Beavers topped the Bear Cubs to earn the victory.  ARC has one second-place finish to go with the four third-place trophies.  The Beavers trailed by five at the half and got down by nine at one point in the second half, but they chipped away at the Santa Rosa lead and eventually took control of the tempo of the contest.  Darren Lee connected on all six of his free throw tries in the final minute to build ARC’s lead.  For the game, Lee hit 13 of 14 free throws and finished with a game-high 21 points.  Mike Selling contributed 18 points to round out his best tournament of the year.  AJ Gold had 15 points and Nelson Ekeh added 14 for ARC. Yuba 59, ARC 57 9-6 Overall 0-0 Conference Despite playing solid defense, the Beavers let the 49ers slip past them at the end of the game.  With 14 seconds left in the game—and holding a one-point lead they could not seal with free throws—ARC allowed Yuba a tip in off a missed free throw to gain the two-point advantage.  The Beavers took a time out with 4.4 seconds left, inbounded the ball underneath their own basket, and them missed three attempts at the basket, a fitting conclusion to a poor shooting performance as a team.  AJ Gold led ARC with 17 points, Mike Selling added 14, and Nelson Ekeh chipped in 10. ARC 87, Feather River 73  9-5 Overall  0-0 Conference After leading by 15 at the half, the Beavers held off a Golden Eagle second-half push to earn the opening round win.  Mike Selling powered in 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the ARC offense.  AJ Gold finished with 15 points while Darren Lee and Nelson Ekeh each added 12. FOOTHILL TOURNAMENT december 7-9, 2007     ARC 83, Redwoods 78 (2OT)  8-5 Overall  0-0 Conference The Beavers outlasted the Corsairs in double overtime to take third place, the third time this season ARC has finished third in a tournament.  Darren Lee hit a deep three-pointer with two seconds left in a tie game to give ARC a three-point advantage.  After Redwoods threw away an full-court pass, ARC inbounded under its own basket, where Lee was fouled and proceeded to connect on both free throws.  Lee finished with 13 points in the game, as did Eric Webster.  Jared Stigall led the team with 18 points, Nelson Ekeh added 16 points, and Mike Selling chipped in 14. Sequoias 74, ARC 65 7-5 Overall 0-0 Conference The Giants overcame a sluggish start and gained control of the paint in the second half en route to the win.  The Beavers, turning in its worst shooting night of the season, staged a rally half way through the second half to cut Sequoias’s lead to three, but the Giants inched its lead back up to double digits.  Eric Webster had 14 points to lead four players in double figures.  Nelson Ekeh finished with 13, Mike Selling had 12, and Darren Lee scored 10. ARC 78, Solano 58  7-4 Overall  0-0 Conference The Beavers jumped out to a quick 32-12 lead ten minutes into the first half, but the Falcons battled back to make it an 11-point game at intermission.  ARC regained control of the tempo in the final 20 minutes, gradually building the lead back to 20.  Eric Webster led all scorers with 23 points, Darren Lee poured in 22, and Nelson Ekeh finished with 11 in the game. BEAVER CLASSIC november 29-december 1, 2007 ARC 85, Shasta 70   6-4 Overall 0-0 Conference In the third game, the Beavers came out a little flat against the Knights, who built a lead going into the half.  But at the start of the second half, ARC began playing together at both ends of the floor and took control of the game before ending up with a convincing win.    Jared Stigall connected on seven of nine shots from the three point line and finished with 21 points.  Mike Selling added 18 points and AJ Gold chipped in 12. Irvine Valley 85, ARC 65  5-4 Overall  0-0 Conference Against the Lasers, the Beavers could not afford anything but an outstanding performance, and they produced that in the first half.  Trailing by just five and playing well, the Beavers lost their composure and intensity for a few minutes, opening the door for Irvine Valley, which built up a comfortable lead.  Nelson Ekeh led the team with 17 points and Eric Webster finished with 13 to lead the scoring. ARC 75, Lassen 62 5-3 Overall 0-0 Conference The host Beavers opened the tournament with a win over the Cougars.  ARC jumped out to a 20-point cushion at the half, but let the Cougars back in the game with some uninspired play at the beginning of the second half.  The Beavers held off the push by Lassen by picking up the team defense.  Eric Webster led the team with 17 points, AJ Gold added 12, and Eugene Crockett and Nelson Ekeh each contributed 11. november 21, 2007 Los Medanos 75, ARC 74 4-3 Overall 0-0 Conference The Beavers surrendered a lay up off a baseline out of bounds play with 2.5 seconds left to lose to the Mustangs.  ARC squandered leads of 13 in the first half and eight in the second before coming back to take a one-point lead with 10 seconds left when Nelson Ekeh followed a missed shot to go up 74-73.  Ekeh then blocked a Los Medanos shot, but the deflection went out of bounds under the basket, setting up their winning bucket.  Ekeh led ARC scorers with 20 points while Eric Webster added 16, Mike Selling 15, and AJ Gold 11. SHASTA COLLEGE TOURNAMENT november 16-18, 2007 Santa Rosa 63, ARC 54 4-2 Overall  0-0 Conference In a rematch of the previous week’s tournament, the Bear Cubs kept the Beavers from finding their rhythm and controlled the tempo of the game.  Despite playing some solid defense, ARC could generate only spurts of offense and found itself on the short end in the second of what potentially could be six meetings with Santa Rosa, depending on tournament play.  Jared Stigall hit six three-pointers and totaled 18 points, but no other Beaver finished with double figures.  Nelson Ekeh added eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds. ARC 106, Yuba 89 4-1 Overall   0-0 Conference The Beavers made it two triple-digit games in a row as the hot shooting continued.  Against the 49ers, ARC hit only eight threes, but hit a high percentage of shots inside the paint and in transition.  Nelson Ekeh and Darren Lee each poured in 24 points, Mike Selling finished with 15 points and eight boards, and AJ Gold and Eric Webster each added 12 points.  Jared Stigall guided the offense with 11 assists and added nine points. ARC 104, Redwoods 78  3-1 Overall 0-0 Conference The Beavers came out shooting and never let up as the team connected on 16 three pointers in the win over the Corsairs. AJ Gold hits his first six from beyond the arc and finished 6-of-7 to finish with a career-high 27 points. Eric Webster had four threes and 22 points; he also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.  Jared Stigall finished with 13 points and seven assists, and Nelson Ekeh added 10 points SANTA ROSA TIP OFF TOURNAMENT november 8-10, 2007 ARC 82, Santa Rosa 77 2-1 Overall  0-0 Conference Darren Lee erupted for 26 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the three-point line—five in the second half—to lead a solid all-around performance by the Beavers.  AJ Gold finished with 15 points, Mike Selling and Nelson Ekeh each added 12, and Eric Webster had 11 points and five steals.  Jared Stigall dished out eight assists against the Bear Cubs.                                       CC San Francisco 92, ARC 81  1-1 Overall 0-0 Conference The Beavers cut a double-digit deficit to four late in the second half, but the Rams put the game away by making free throws—CCSF made 22 more free throws than ARC.  Jared Stigall led the offense with 19 points (with four treys), AJ Gold put in 13, Nelson Ekeh had 12, and Eric Webster finished with 10. ARC 84, Long Beach City 52  1-0 Overall  0-0 Conference The Beavers opened the season with an impressive run against the Vikings.  Five players put double figures, led by Darren Lee’s 17.  Eric Webster added 15 points and Mike Selling had 14.  Jared Stigall contributed 14 points, including three three-pointers, and seven assists while Nelson Ekeh finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
