After a scoreless first quarter, Taylor scored 10 second quarter points and led 10-7 at the half.  Walsh's only score came on a Pullen option run with 3:07 to play in the first half to tie the game at 7-7.  Taylor took the halftime lead when Nick Davis kicked a 26-yard field goal with just 15 seconds left in the half. Walsh tied the game with 2:47 to play in the third quarter on a 22-yard field goal by Eric Buchanan (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay).  Taylor would answer on the next possession to regain the lead at 17-10 on a 48-yard TD pass from Shaun Addison to Ryan Magnuson.  The Cavs tied the game at 17-17, as Pullen hit freshman tight end Jared Suvak (Galena, OH/Big Walnut) for a 44-yard score with 10:14 to play.  After Pullen's TD run for the go-ahead score, Taylor would drive to the Walsh 20-yard line in an attempt to tie the game in the final minute, but would turn the ball over on downs. Pullen had a hand in all three scores, while passing for 189 yards on 11-22.  Mike McGill (Jr., Akron, OH/Coventry) caught five passes for 89 yards.  Jeff Tallman's (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) bid for 1,000 yards fell short, as he was held to 69 yards on 35 carries, and finishes the season with 918 yards.  Defensive back Brian Williams (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley/Findlay) had 10 solo tackles, while linebacker Jason Stiel (So., Reynoldsburg, OH/HS) had six solo tackles and three tackle assists. Monday, November 10, 2008 "Cavs Suffer Fourth Straight Loss in OT at Marian/Close Season at Taylor Walsh (2-8, 0-5) lost its fourth straight game, losing 34-31 in overtime at Marian College on Saturday.  The Cavs close the season in Upland, Indiana on Saturday against Taylor University at 1 pm. The game will broadcast live on the Walsh University Football Network (AM 900 WCER, News-Talk 640 WHLO AM). JaQuan Patilla caught a 25-yard TD pass from Clay Coomer in overtime to give Marian a 34-31 overtime win over the Cavs.  Walsh had taken a 31-28 lead in the OT on Eric Buchanan's (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay) 37-yard field goal.  The Cavs OT possession was filled with controversy.  With the Cavs facing third and eight on the Marian 23-yard line, it appeared that Marc Pullen (Sr., Akron, OH/Ellet) had connected with Mike McGill (Jr., Akron, OH/Coventry) for a first down on the 14-yard line. But the ball was spotted on the 16-yard line, leaving Walsh with fourth and one.  The Cavs were set to go for a first down when they were called for a false start, leaving them with fourth and five at the twenty, and Buchanan's field goal.  Marian then scored on their first play for the win. Marian dominated the first half, scoring 21 unanswered second quarter points to lead 21-7 at halftime.  Walsh's only first half score came on a 52-yard interception return by Mike Garden (Sr. Akron, OH/Copley) in the first quarter.  Walsh tied the game in the third quarter, when Jeff Tallman (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) scored on runs of 37 and 45 yards.  Tallman then gave Walsh the lead at 28-21, when he scored on a four-yard run with 14:36 to play.  Walsh held Marian without a first down in the second half until their final drive, which started at the 18-yard line with 1:24 to play.  The Knights drove 28 yards in 12 plays, and tied the game on Coomer's 10-yard TD pass to Zach Goodbar in the corner of the end zone with eight seconds to play. Tallman rushed for a game-high 224 yards for the Cavs on 35 carries.  He has gained 849 yards for the year, and is third in the MSFA in rushing.  He is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and has reached the end zone nine times.  Brian Williams (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) leads the MSFA in kick returns (26.6) and Eric Buchanan in field goals per game (0.90). Walsh and Taylor (2-7, 0-5) close the season in Upland, Indiana on Saturday.  The Trojans lost 29-15 at St. Xavier on Saturday.  The Cougars led 26-0 at halftime and were never challenged.  Taylor has lost its last four games.  Trojan tailback Josh Cook leads the MSFA in rushing, averaging 100.9 yards per game.  He has rushed for 908 yards and has scored five touchdowns.  The Cavs and Trojans are meeting for the ninth time, with Walsh leading the series 7-1.  The Cavs won 31-20 at Fawcett Stadium last year and has won the last six meetings. Saturday,November 8, 2008 "Cavs Lose 34-31 in OT" BOXSCORE (Indianapolis, INI) Walsh (2-7, 0-5) remained winless in the Mid-States Football Association Mideast, after losing 34-31 in overtime to Marian College (6-4, 2-4) today.  The cavs close the season at Taylor University (Upland, IN) next Saturday at 1 pm.  The game will be broadcast live on the Walsh University Radio Network on AM 900 WCER and NewsTalk 640 AM WHLO. JaQuan Patilla caught a 25-yard TD pass from Clay Coomer in overtime to give Marian the win. But, the ball was spotted on the 16-yard line leaving Walsh with a fourth down and one play. The Knights drove 28 yards in 12 plays, with only one timeout, and tied the game on Coomer's 10-yard TD pass to Zach Goodbar in the corner of the end zone with eight seconds to play. Jeff Tallman rushed for a game-high 224 yards for the Cavs on 35 carries. Monday, November 3, 2008 "Cavs Drop Third Straight (24-22) to Ohio Dominican/at Marian on Saturday" Walsh fell to 2-7 overall and remained winless (0-4) in the Mid-States Football Association Mideast, after suffering a 24-22 home loss to Ohio Dominican University at Fawcett Stadium on Saturday. The Cavs' seven losses are the most in a single season.  They look to snap a three-game losing streak at Marian College (Indianapolis, IN) on Saturday at 2 pm.  The game will broadcast live on the Walsh University Football Network (AM 900 WCER, SportsRadio 1350 AM). Walsh started well on Saturday, when Brian Williams (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) returned a blocked field goal 68 yards for a score at the 4:22 mark of the first quarter to give the Cavs an early 7-0 lead.  ODU marched back and tied the game on the next possession on a three-yard pass with 1:44 to play in the quarter.  Eric Buchanan (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay) would kick back-to-back field goals (39, 47 yds.) to put Walsh up 13-7, with 5:31 to play in the second period.  ODU would answer with a 21-yard field goal to cut the Walsh lead to 13-10 at halftime. The Panthers scored on their first possession of the third quarter to take their first lead of the game (17-13) on a 21-yard pass. Walsh trimmed the lead to 17-16 early in the fourth quarter (14:04), on Buchanan's third field goal (42 yds.) of the game. The Panthers answered in five plays at the 12:43 mark; on a 10-yard scoring pass to take a 24-16 lead.  Walsh would rally, as Jeff Tallman (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) scored on a one-yard plunge with 7:40 to play to pull the Cavs to within two points at 24-22.  Quarterback Jim Shiplett's (Fr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest) two-point conversion run failed, leaving the Cavs 24-22.  Shiplett was injured on the play and left the field on a stretcher.  He suffered a concussion and is lost for the season.  Walsh would have one more possession, but turned the ball over on downs.  ODU then ran the clock out for the win.  Jeff Tallman ran for a game-high 142 yards.  Marc Pullen (Sr., Akron, OH/Ellet) started at quarterback and finished 10-24 for 107 yards.  Pullen was injured on Walsh's fourth quarter scoring drive, but returned for their final drive.   Walsh and Marian College (5-4, 1-4) meet in a MSFA Mideast game at Grosskopf Stadium in Indianapolis, IN on Saturday.  The Cavs lead the series 1-0, defeating Marian 54-28 at Fawcett Stadium last year.  Marian scored 17 unanswered second half points on the road last Saturday, to defeat Taylor University 32-23.  Marian's Dustin Craig picked-off a Taylor pass and returned it 25 yards for a score to give Marian the lead for good.  Saturday, November 1, 2008 "ODU Spoils Senior Day 24-22" BOXSCORE NAIA No. 25 Ohio Dominican University (5-3, 3-2) kept its faint playoff hopes alive, with a 24-22 Mid-States Football Association win over Walsh University (2-7, 0-4) at Fawcett Stadium today.  ODU plays at Urbana in a non-league next week, while the Cavs look to break a three-game losing streak with a MSFA Mideast game at Marian College. Walsh opened the scoring when Brian Williams (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) returned a blocked field goal 68 yards for a score at the 4:22 mark of the first quarter.  Eric Buchanan's (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay) extra point gave Walsh the early 7-0 lead.  ODU marched back and tied the game on the next possession, when little used wide receiver Heath Killilea caught a three-yard pass from Cris Reisert with 1:44 to play in the quarter.  Mitch Croy’s PAT tied the game at 7-7.  Walsh's Buchanan then kicked back-to-back field goals (39, 47 yds.) to put Walsh up 13-7, with 5:31 to play in the second period.  ODU's Mitch Croy answered with a 21-yard field goal, as the Panthers trailed 13-10 at halftime. On the first possession of the third quarter, ODU took its first lead of the game when Reisert hit Justin Campbell for a 21-yard score.  Croy's PAT gave ODU a 17-13 lead.  Walsh trimmed the lead to 17-16 early in the fourth quarter (14:04), on Buchanan's third field goal of the game from 42 yards out. The Panthers answered at the 12:43 mark in five plays, as Steven Williams caught a 10-yard scoring strike from Reisert, to give ODU a 24-16 lead.  Walsh would rally, as Jeff Tallman (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) scored on a one-yard plunge with 7:40 to play to pull the Cavs to within two points at 24-22.  Quarterback Jim Shiplett's (Fr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest) two-point conversion run failed, leaving the Cavs behind 24-22.  Shiplett was injured on the play and left the field on a stretcher. Walsh would force ODU to a three and out on the next possession, but was also forced to punt on their next possession, as ODU then ran the clock out for the win. Walsh’s Jeff Tallman ran for a game-high 142 yards.  Marc Pullen (Sr., Akron, OH/Ellet), who started at quarterback for the Cavs, finished 10-24 for 107 yards.  Pullen was injured on Walsh's scoring drive that pulled the Cavs to within 24-22, but returned for their final drive.  ODU's Cris Reisert was 28-44 for 275 yards and running back Mike Noffsniger gained 120 yards on 20 carries.  Brandon Robinson caught nine Reisert passes for 76 yards Monday, October 27, 2008 "Cavs (2-6, 0-3) Fall at NAIA No. 3 Saint Francis/Home Finale Next" Walsh (2-6, 0-3) lost for the 11th straight time to the University of Saint Francis (IN), falling 52-12 in a Mid-States Football Association Mideast game at Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday.  The loss guarantees the Cavs their second straight losing season, with three games to play.  This Saturday, they are home for a MSFA Mideast game with Ohio Dominican University at 3 pm at Fawcett Stadium.  The game will be broadcast live on the Walsh University Football Radio Network (AM 900 WCER, SportsRadio 1350 AM) and on the internet at www.wcer.us and www.sportsradio1350.com.  NAIA No. 3 USF (7-0, 4-0) turned a close game into a rout, with four touchdowns into a little over five minutes, in defeating the Cavs 52-12 on Saturday.  With Walsh trailing 17-12 late in the first half, USF scored twice in the final 2:46 of the first half and twice in the first 2:23 of the second half, to turn a five-point lead into a 33-point lead.  USF opened the scoring on their second possession, on a 10-yard run at the 8:15 mark of the first quarter.  Walsh answered, when Jason Stiel (So., Reynoldsburg, OH/HS) intercepted a Cougar pass and returned it 30 yards to the 10-yard line late in the first quarter.  Jeff Tallman (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) then raced seven yards for a score at the 5:33 mark of the quarter.  The extra point attempt was blocked, and proved costly when holder and Cavs' punter J.C. Heighway (Sr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) was blindsided and suffered a concussion.  USF answered on the next possession, with a 29-yd TD run to take a 14-6 lead at the 1:22 mark of the first quarter.  The Cougars increased their lead to 17-6 at the 12:43 mark of the second quarter on a 33-yard field goal.  Walsh would answer however, as Tallman finished off a six-play, 59-yard drive, with a 25-yard TD run.  Walsh's two-point pass failed, and the Cavs trailed 17-12.  The Cougars would answer the score on their next drive on a one-yard TD run and lead 24-12 with 2:26 left in the half.  Walsh quickly went three and out, and USF went 65 yards in eight-plays to score on a five-yard TD pass to lead 31-12 at halftime. The third quarter turned disastrous, when Jeff Tallman fumbled on the 28-yardline on the first play from scrimmage.  USF recovered and scored quickly on a 23-yard TD pass to lead 38-12.  Walsh's Marc Pullen (Sr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was then picked off on the next possession for a 40-yard return for a score to increase the USF lead to 45-12.  The Cougars tacked on one more scored in the final period to end the scoring.  USF totaled 524 yards total offense, while holding the Cavs to just 79 yards.  Jeff Tallman led the Cavs with 69 yards rushing. Walsh plays host to Ohio Dominican University (4-3, 2-2) on Saturday (3 pm).  Walsh leads the all-time series 3-1, but lost 56-20 in Columbus last season.  The Panthers have lost two of their last three games, but won last Saturday 24-6 at home against Taylor University.  ODU quarterback Cris Reisert leads the MSFA in passing, throwing for 308.1 yards per game, and with 18 touchdowns.  Walsh will honor its senior players and cheerleaders in pre-game ceremonies. USF opened the scoring on their second possession, when Daniel Carter scored on a 10-yard run at the 8:15 mark of the first quarter.  Walsh answered, when Jason Stiel (SO., Reynoldsburg, OH/HS) intercepted a Jeff Wedding pass and returned it 30 yards to the 10-yard line late in the first quarter. Jeff Wedding then gave the Cougars a 14-6 lead, when he scored on a 29-yard run at the 1:22 mark of the first quarter.  USF increased their lead to 17-6 at the 12:43 mark of the second quarter on a 33-yard field goal.  Walsh would answer, as Tallman finished off a six-play, 59-yard drive, with a 25-yard TD run.  Walsh's two-point pass failed, and the Cavs trailed 17-12.  The Cougars answered on their next drive on a one-yard run by Wedding, to lead 24-12 with 2:26 left in the half.  Walsh quickly went three and out, and USF went 65 yards in eight-plays to score on a five-yard pass from Wedding to Jeremiah Wood to lead 31-12 at halftime. Saturday, October 18, 2008 "Tallman Rushes for 276 yards in 24-21 loss to Malone" BOXSCORE Billy Bob Orsagh’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Davis with 1:18 to play, gave Malone University (4-1, 3-0) a 24-21 win over Walsh University (2-5, 0-2) in a Mid-States Football Association Mideast game at Fawcett Stadium today.  The TD pass completed a 12-play 96-yard drive, and gave Malone its only lead of the day.  Walsh’s Jeff Tallman (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) opened the scoring at 11:40 mark of the first quarter on a 40-yard TD run.  Tallman would rush for a career best 276 yards on the afternoon.  Malone answered at the 8:24 mark of the quarter when Joseph Peters scored on a three-yard run, as the first quarter ended 7-7. Tim Cox (Jr., Minerva, OH/HS) put Walsh back on top at the 14:14 mark of the second quarter, after scoring on a three-yard run.  Walsh would hold the 14-7 advantage entering the locker room at halftime.  Tallman gained 147 of his game-high 276 yards in the first half. Malone took the second half kick-off and marched 68 yards in nine plays to knot the game at 14, as Peters scored on a one-yard run.  It would be the only score of the third quarter.  Walsh would regain the lead early in the fourth period, when Tallman scored on a eight-yard run at the 12:13 mark, giving the Cavs a 21-14 lead.  Malone would cut the lead to 21-17 on the next possession, when Nick Allison converted a 30-yard field goal at the 8:10 mark.  Walsh was able to pick-up one first down on their next possession, but was forced to punt with 4:33 to play.  The Cavs JC Heighway (Sr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) landed a beauty, pinning Malone back on the four-yard line with 4:33 to play. Maurice Gore carried 14 yards on first down, to the 18-yard line to get the Pioneers out of trouble.  It would the running game that would help the Pioneers march the ball down the field.  Gore would rush for 12 yards to the Malone 30, followed by runs of 16 and eight-yards to the Walsh 46-yard line.  On second down and 13, from the Walsh 40-yard line, Orsagh connected with Derek Deardorff, for 12 yards to the Walsh 28.  Orsagh then ran two yards for the first down to the Cavs 26-yard line.  Jermaine Whitmore (Jr., Euclid, OH/St. Ignatius) then sacked Orsagh for a five-yard loss to the Walsh 31.  On the next play, Orsagh connected on a post pattern to Davis for the winning tally. Walsh took over on their 23-yard line following the kick, but was unable to move the ball and turned it over on downs with 30 seconds to play. Malone totaled 458 yards to total offense, 236 through the air and 222 on the ground.  Peters rushed for 100 yards and Gore 100.  Orsagh completed 26 of 42 passes, with one TD.  Josh Settlemire caught six passes for 74 yards and Tyler Davis six for 48 yards.  The win was the third straight for Malone over Walsh.  Walsh travels to the University of Saint Francis (IN) next Saturday. Walsh extended the lead to 20-12 at the 11:13 mark of the third quarter, when Shiplett and Mike Garden (Sr., Akron, OH/Copley) connected on a 30-yard pass play.  It was Garden's first career TD catch.  Buchanan then converted the extra point.  Urbana then came roaring back, as Kirk Hannah scored on a 71-yard run on the next possession to close to within 20-18.  The pass attempt for two points to tie the game failed.  Urbana regained the lead at the start of the fourth quarter; when Matt Hausheer kicked a 30-yard field goal to give the Blue Knights a 21-20 lead with 14:45 to play.  Walsh then returned the favor at the 4:48 mark, when Buchanan booted a 46 yarder, for a 23-21 advantage.   The Cavs then put the game away, when Shiplett scored on a one-yard plunge with 52 seconds to play. Saturday, October 11, 2008 "Cavs Break Skid with 30-21 Win over Urbana" Walsh (2-5) snapped a four-game losing streak with a 30-21 non-conference win over Urbana University (1-5) today at Fawcett Stadium.  The Cavs return to Mid-States Football Association Mideast play next Saturday against Malone University at Fawcett Stadium at 12 pm.  It is the Cavs' home game. Urbana scored in three plays on the games' first possession, driving 88 yards, and scoring when Kirk Hannah scored on an eight-yard run.  The PAT failed.  Walsh got on the board in the second quarter when Tim Cox (Jr., Minerva, OH/HS) scored on a two-yard run.  Eric Buchanan's (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay) extra point gave the Cavs a 7-6 lead at the 13:57 mark.  Urbana regained the lead at the 12:04 mark, when Jason Conner returned a Walsh punt 84 yards for a score.  The two-point conversion pass failed and Urbana led 12-7.  Walsh regained the lead on the next possession, when Jim Shiplett (Fr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest) threw a 19-yard TD pass to Clinton Blossomgame (So., Columbus, OH/Beechcroft) to cap-off a 66-yard drive at the 9:18 mark.  Walsh's two-point try failed, and the Cavs took to a 13-12 lead into the locker room. Urbana then came roaring back, as Hannah scored on a 71-yard run on the next possession to close to within 20-18.  The pass attempt for two points to tie the game failed.  Urbana regained the lead at the start of the fourth quarter, when Matt Hausheer kicked a 30-yard field goal to give the Blue Knights a 21-20 lead with 14:45 to play.  Walsh regained the lead at the 4:48 mark, when Buchanan booted a 46 yarder, for a 23-21 advantage.   The Cavs then put the game away, when Shiplett scored on a one-yard plunge with 52 seconds to play. Shiplett completed 12 of 17 passes for 158 yards.  Garden was his favorite receiver with six catches for 103 yards.  John Rutan )Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) also caught four passes for 36 yards.  Blossomgame rushed for 82 yards, but left the game in the fourth quarter with an injury to his left knee.  His status for next week is uncertain.  Urbana's Kirk Hannah led all rushers with 154 yards.  Blue Knight quarterback Evan Gelhart was 10-25 with an interception for 171 yards in his first collegiate start. Saturday, October 4, 2008 "Cavs Fall 23-7 at St. Xavier" (Chicago, IL) Walsh (1-4, 0-1 MSFA) lost its fourth straight game, and fell to 1-4 for the first time in school history, as they lost their Mid-States Football Association Mideast opener 23-7 at Saint Xavier University (3-2, 1-0 MSFA) today.   The Cavs return home next Saturday to meet Urbana University in a non-league game at Fawcett Stadium at 12 pm. The 21st ranked Cougars drove 72 yards in three plays on the games' first possession to take a 6-0 lead.  Matt McGinnis caught a 36-yard strike from Jeremy Zientek for the score.  Zientek completed  34 of 49 passes on the day for 323 yards.  The Cougars missed the extra point.  In the second quarter, the Cougars tacked on three more points to take a 9-0 lead on A.J. Nichols 20-yard field goal.  The score remained 9-0 until the opening minute of the fourth quarter (14:53), when Xavier Torres caught a 14-yard pass from Zientek.  The PAT put the Cougars up 16-0.  Bill McKeon then scored on a one-yard run at the 7:09 mark to give Saint Xavier a 23-0 lead.  Walsh avoided the shutout when Jim Shiplett (Fr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest) hit Mike McGill (Jr., Barberton, OH/Coventry) on a slant for a TD with three seconds to play.  Shiplett started in place of Marc Pullen (Sr., Akron, OH/Ellet), who injured his left hand against Quincy University last Saturday.  Pullen is out for at least three weeks. Shiplett was injured on Walsh's first possession, after running for a first down, and was replaced by University of Akron transfer Kade Wagner (R-Fr., Green, OH/HS).  Shiplett returned in the second half and was 6-21 for 95 yards in his first collegiate start.  Wagner was 5-12 for 31 yards.  The MSFA's top rusher, Clinton Blossomgame (So., Columbus, OH/Beechcroft), was held to 39 yards on 22 carries.  Walsh was limited to only 26 yards on the ground and 152 yards total offense. Saturday, September 27, 2008 "Cavs Lose 3rd Straight, 27-25 to Quincy/Homecoming Spolied" BOXSCORE Walsh (1-3) lost for the third straight time, falling 27-25 to Quincy University (1-3) on Homecoming Saturday, in a Mid-States Football Association crossover game.  The Cavs open MSFA Mideast play at Saint Xavier University next Saturday.  Walsh is 1-3 for the first time since the 2000 season. Walsh opened the scoring at the 7:35 mark of the first quarter on Eric Buchanan's (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay) 42-yard field goal.  Quincy would then score twice, both on big plays, to take a 14-3 first period lead.  Red-shirt freshman quarterback Sam Donatucci connected with James Bailey for a 47-yard score and Mike James for a 41-yard score.  Donatucci passed for 347 yards on 27-44.  The two teams combined for 25 second quarter points, as Quincy led 24-18 at halftime.  Walsh closed to within 14-9, when Marc Pullen (Sr., Akron, OH/Ellet) threw a 33-yard TD pass to Eric Magnacca (Fr., Massillon, OH/Perry).  Buchanan's PAT hit the upright.  Walsh then regained the lead at 15-14, when Clinton Blossomgame (So., Columbus, OH/Beechcroft) scored on a one-yard.  Walsh's two-point bid failed.  The teams then traded field goals, and Walsh led 18-17 with 1:17 seconds left in the first half.  But another big play enabled Quincy to take a 24-18 halftime lead, when Corey Williams raced 67 yards to pay-dirt with 59 seconds to play in the half. The third quarter was scoreless.  Quincy then added a 27-yard Alex Beard field goal with 14:49 to play to take a 27-18 lead.  Walsh closed to within 27-25 with 1:22 to play when Pullen hit John Rutan (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) for a two-yard score.  Walsh's onside kick attempt failed, and Quincy ran out the clock to earn their first win of the season and first against the Cavs in five tries. Blossomgame rushed for 189 yards, while Williams rushed for 140 yards. Saturday, September 13, 2008 "Blocked Field Goal on Final Play Spoils Comeback" BOXSCORE Seton Hill University (3-0) blocked Walsh's 22-yard field goal on the final play of the game to win their third straight game 23-21.  The loss dropped Walsh to 1-2 and marks their second straight loss to a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  Walsh lost to West Liberty State College at Fawcett Stadium last Saturday. Walsh took the opening kick and marched 36 yards in six plays and scored when Jeff Tallman (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) scored on a seven-yard run to give the Cavs the early lead.  Eric Buchanan's (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay) PAT gave Walsh a 7-0 lead.  Brian Williams (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) returned the opening kick-off 58 yards to set-up the opening score.  Seton Hill closed the Walsh lead to 7-6 at the 2:53 mark of the first quarter, when Antwarn Jones scored on a nine-yard run.  Jones led all ball carriers with 153 yards on 26 carries.  Ray Wilkins missed the PAT, and Walsh led 7-6 after one quarter. Seton Hill missed a chance to take the lead in the second quarter after a Walsh fumble, when Wilkins missed 25-yard field goal with 8:10 to play in the first half.  Walsh was then forced to punt on the next possession, and Seton Hill's Sammy Tranks returned the punt 89 yards for a TD.  For Tranks, it was his second return of the year for a score.  He also scored the previous week against Geneva College.  The PAT put the Griffins up 13-7.  Walsh then fumbled on the ensuing kick, but Seton Hill returned the favor on a fourth down play at the Walsh 22-yard line to give the ball back to the Cavs.  Walsh would fumble again on the next possession and Seton Hill's Andrew DeMase recovered on the Cavs 18-yard line.  Ray Wilkins would then close the first half scoring with a 34-yard field goal to give Seton Hill a 16-7 halftime lead. Seton Hill expanded their lead to 23-7 in the third quarter, when RJ Butler raced 46 yards to pay dirt.  The PAT put the Griffins up 23-7.  Walsh came right back and marched 58 yards in five plays and scored on Clinton Blossomgame's (So., Columbus, OH/Beechcroft) 28-yard run.  The Cavs then added the two-point conversion, when Marc Pullen (Sr., Akron, OH/Ellet) found Mike McGill (Jr., Barberton, OH/Coventry) on a slant to trim the lead to 23-15.  Walsh cut the lead to 23-21 at the 9:25 mark of the fourth quarter, when Pullen scored on a one-yard run.  The Cavs' two-point conversion pass failed.  It appeared as if the Griffins would then ice the game, when Jones raced to the Walsh 12-yard line on a 43-yard run.  The Griffins then advanced to the three-yard line, but failed to score when Jones was dropped for a loss by Mark Sexton (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) and Tony Reed (So., Warren, OH/Harding) on fourth down at the four-yard line.  Walsh would start its final drive on their own four-yard line with six minutes to play.  The Cavs would then methodically march down the field, as Blossomgame rushed for 36 yards, Jeff Tallman 11 and Tim Cox (Jr., Minerva, OH/HS) 14 yards, with Pullen completing a four-yard pass to Tallman. Walsh reached the Seton Hill five-yard on third down with five seconds to play, then opted for the game-winning field.  Walsh used their final time out to stop the clock and then Seton Hill their final one to freeze Buchanan.  Then when play began, the middle of the Seton Hill line surged and got a piece of the kick, which landed short to give Seton Hill its first win over the Cavs in three tries. Blossomgame led Walsh with 128 yards and Pullen completed 6-15 passes for 31 yards. The Cavs are idle until September 27, when they host Quincy University at 12 pm. Saturday, September 6, 2008 "West Liberty Downs Cavs 24-10" BOXSCORE West Liberty State College (1-1) handed Walsh University (1-1) its first loss of the season, 24-10 at Fawcett Stadium today.  The Hilltoppers defense limited the Cavs to 10 first downs and 252 yards total offense.   Penalties and turnovers also hurt the Cavs, as they turned the ball over three times on interceptions and were whistled for 11 penalties.   West Liberty scored on its first possession, as Tony DiMarco caught a 33-yd TD pass from back-up quarterback Nate Worek.  Worek started in place of Zach Amedro, who was injured in their loss to Edinboro University last week.  Billy Hager's point after put the Hilltoppers up 7-0 at the 11:56 mark of the first quarter. Walsh then put together their best drive of the game, marching 72 yards in seven plays, but had to settle for a 32-yard field goal from Eric Buchanan (So., Green Cove Springs, FL/Clay) at the 5:35 of the first quarter.  Walsh took its only lead of the game in the second period (12:53), when Clinton Blossomgame (So., Columbus, OH/Beechcroft) raced 68 yards for a TD, to put the Cavs up 10-7 after Buchanan's point after.   West Liberty tied the game with 11 seconds left in the first half on a Hager 43-yard field goal.  The drive was boosted by a pass interference call on Walsh, which gave West Liberty at first down at the Walsh 39-yard line. The Hilltoppers snapped the tie in the third quarter, when Worek connected on a 27-yard TD to Eddie Hills.  They added a fourth quarter score with 49 seconds to play, when Branden Ore scored on an eight-yard run.  Ore led all rushers with 167 yards on 26 carries. After the Cavs forced Trinity to a three and out, the Cavs marched 45 yards and increased their lead when Clinton Blossomgame (RS-So., Columbus, OH/Beechcroft) scored from seven yards out to put the Cavs up by two scores.  Buchanan's kick gave the Cavs a 14-0 lead. Trinity's only score came just five second into the second quarter, when quarterback Jakob Mareno scored on a four-yard run.  Walsh led 14-7 at the half. Walsh added two scores in the third quarter, the first when Buchanan connected on a career-best 47-yard field goal to give the Cavs a 17-7 lead at the 9:08 mark of the third quarter.  Pridemore would then catch his second TD pass of the day, when Pullen found him open on a ten-yard TD pass.  Blossomgame closed the scoring with two-yard TD run with 9:37 to play.  Blossomgame rushed for 139 yards on 35 carries and Pullen passed for 88 yards. The defense picked off three passes and recovered two fumbles. Chris Bivens (So., Alliance, OH/HS), Luke Kolic (Sr., Massillon, OH/Perry) and Brian Williams (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley/Findlay) all had interception.  Williams also returned a kick-off 42 yards and returned three punts for 35 yards.   Bivins also recovered a fumble.   The defense also came up big in the third quarter, when Trinity recovered a Walsh fumble and marched to the seven-yard line in an attempt to tie the game, when Sian Cotton (Sr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) sacked the quarterback for a eight-yard loss back to the 15-yard.  The Trojans would then miss a 36-yard field goal.
