#25 West Virginia State 34, West Liberty 24
(INSTITUTE)---West Virginia State (6-1, 4-1) scored the game's final 13 points in a 34-24 victory against West Liberty (4-4, 3-2). A 5-yard Patrick Ryan to Jermain King gave the Jackets the lead for good with 7:24 left in the game. Fabian Payne's one-yard plunge at the 5:46 mark add the insurance for #25 State.
Payne rushed 20 times for 91 yards and two scores in place of injured starter Brian Mitchell. Kevin O'Brien completed 14 of 24 passes for 158 yards before leaving the game late in the first half. Ryan hit on 5-of-7 throws in his relief role.
West Liberty, which was in a tie 14-14 game at the break, held a 419-383 edge in total offense. Zach Amedro completed 22 of 39 passes for 266 yards. Branden Ore chipped in with 139 rush yards and two scores on 20 carries.
Andrew Eggleton provided West Virginia State with a key fourth quarter interception. William Jackson had two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery for the Jackets. Topper linebacker Clay Beeler had a game-best 14 stops.

W.Va. State hopes to break through conference logjam
Yellow Jackets host to West Liberty Saturday

West Virginia State is licking its wounds from a winless season in the West Virginia Conference and the University of Charleston is mapping plans for putting together a football team.
Six years later, both schools are playing a key role in one of the biggest WVC weekends in Kanawha Valley history.

Jackets Remain in Top 25
The WVSU football team is ranked #25 in the current American Football Coaches' Association and D2Football.com polls.
The Jackets fell from the 20th spot after losing 35-28 in the final seconds at Seton Hill Saturday. The Griffins rose from #24 to #19 in this week's AFCA poll and #18 in the D2Football.com poll.

Football Falls on Late Touchdown
Seton Hill capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive by scoring the winning touchdown with 10 seconds remaining for a 35-28 win over the Yellow Jackets in Greensburg, Pa. Saturday evening.
The Yellow Jackets entered the game ranked #19/20 in the polls with the Griffins ranked #23/24 with both teams undefeated overall and in WVIAC play.
Brian Mitchell carried 21 times for 228 yards and three touchdowns before sitting out the entire fourth quarter with an injury.
Junior quarterback Kevin O'Brien went 18-of-30 passing for 214 yards with one touchdown pass to Jermain King.
King finished with five catches for 56 yards.
Defensively DeMichael Nesbitt had a big day for the Jackets with 15 tackles including one sack.
Seton Hill picked up 459 total yards compared to 443 for WVSU.
WVSU is now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Seton Hill goes to 7-0 and 4-0.

Kevin O'Brien, a John Carroll grad, is the starting quarterback for West Virginia State University (5-0). Through five games, the junior has completed 89 of 140 passes for 1,310 yards.

Football, Volleyball Players Ranked Nationally
West Virginia State University senior volleyball player Kristen Hager is leading NCAA Division II in Digs Per Set with an average of 7.12.
Teammate Jennifer Paswaters is third nationally in Sets Per Game with an average of 11.94.
As a squad the WVIAC-leading Yellow Jackets are tops in the country in Kills Per Set with an average 14.95 and second in defensive Digs Per Set with a 19.2 average.

On the gridiron sophomore running back Brian Mitchell ranks 11th in the nation in Division II with an average of 123.8 rushing yards per game.
Junior quarterback Kevin O'Brien is 15th in Passing Efficiency with a 158.6 rating.
As a team WVSU ranks 4th in Total Defense and 2nd in Pass Defense and Tackles for a Loss.
The Jackets' high-powered offense is currently 10th nationally in scoring.

Nesbitt earns WVIAC POW Honors
West Virginia State University Demicheal Nesbitt earned the WVIAC Player of the week honors for his 12 tackle performance in the 24-21 victory over the University of Charleston.
He earned the award during his freshman year with a 13 tackle performance in a overtime win versus Allen University.

Jackets win Thriller 21-20 over Fairmont State
West Virginia State University improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the WVIAC with a 21-20 win over Fairmont State University.
The Yellow Jackets trailed 20-7 going into the fourth quarter.
But after the WVSU defense forced a punt the Jackets took the ball with just under 12 minute sto play and methodically marched 60 yards in six plays with Brian Mitchell carrying the ball in on a 24 yard scamper with 9:18 remaining.
The defense held again, allowing the Falcons just 7 yards on three plays before they were forced to punt from there own 23.
The Jackets started their final drive from their own 47 with 7:00 to play
Fabian Payne ran for 14 yards on the first play.A couple of plays later quarterback Kevin O'Brien hit Ryan Douglass with a 28 yard pass. After two running plays came up short O'Brien drilled a pass to Jermain King for an 11-yard touchdown (pictured right) with 3:40 second to put WVSU up for good.
FSU marched down the field and had a chance to win the game as time expired, but former Capital High star Alex Ashley's 41-yarder missed just right.
The Yellow Jackets won on the road at Fairmont State for the first time since 1992...
