Liz Ford Discovery Channel Time Warp Stuff

For any of you that didn’t see it, I was able to find an uploaded clip of Liz Ford on Time Warp.Very cool stuff and damn does Liz look good doing her thing. Seriously, how much better would Liz Ford be doing color commentary on ESPN than Mich and Ewa. Don’t get me wrong, Mitch and Ewa are really nice people and in my opinion the billiards industry should be kissing Ewa’s ass for all the goodwill she brings to the game, but pool on TV needs something new.If you ask me (which no one ever does and for very good reason), I’d throw Liz Ford and Joe Rogan together to do a broadcast and see how it goes. Both of them know the game and Rogan has a ton of experience on TV and calling sporting events with his MMA gigs.

The Pixie Revolution Will Be Televised

Well, my favorite pocket sized pool player didn’t win since Sarah Rousey got bounced by Kelly Fisher 7-1 in the semifinals, but just when all hope seemed lost, along came another pint sized powerhouse in the form of Ms. Monica Webb. After dispatching Vivian Villarreal 7-5 in a hotly contested semifinal match which saw Monica go up 5-1 only to give almost all of her lead away before taking down the Texas Tornado, the lovely Ms. Webb matched up against current #1 Kelly Fisher.I’ve got to say I was pretty sure that Kelly Fisher was going to win her 3rd title of the season, but Monica showed an amazing level of poise and composure on her way to winning her first ever WPBA title to the tune of a 7-4 victory. As far as I’m concerned, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. Huge congrats go out to the gal with the adorable southern accent on a long awaited and much deserved WPBA title.

2008 WPBA Championships - Final Four

Quarterfinal matches wrapped up last night and none of the matches were even remotely competitive. Domination all the way around:Top BracketKelly Fisher 7 vs. Helena Thornfeldt 0Sarah Rousey 7 vs. Gerda Hofstatter 3Bottom BracketVivian Villarreal 7 vs. Xiaoting Pan 3Monica Webb 7 vs. Karen Corr 3 Predictions anyone? I like Sarah Rousey to continue to rock it, taking down Kelly Fisher (yeah I know, totally shocking with my impartial predictions). I also like Monica Webb taking down Vivian Villarreal to set up The Ultimate Pixie Death Match Showdown between Sarah Rousey and Monica Webb.Seriously though, how cool is it that we’ve got another Final Four without the old standbys. No offense to Allison and Karen, two of the greatest players the WPBA has ever seen, but seeing all the new faces on the boob tube and winning some serious (well, WPBA serious anyway) dough is pretty damn spiffy.Back later with the recap and final thoughts

2008 WPBA Championships - Quarterfinals Set

All I can say is TV round yo! The pocket sized pixie Sarah Rousey who I dig eversomuch will be making her debut on ESPN after once again taking out queen bee Allison Fisher. Rousey didn’t just eek by either. We’re talkin’ 9-4 woodshed style! Seriously, how pimp is that?!?! Next up, Rousey has Gerda Hofstatter and the winner will then meet the winner of the Kelly Fisher vs. Helena Thornfeldt match.In the other half of the bracket, Xiaoting Pan is matched up against Vivian Villareal and Monica Webb will look to take down Karen Corr, who’s been really looking like the Karen Corr of old in this tournament. Karen’s been drilling everyone she’s faced, with her closest match being a 9-4 rout of “J Thug” Jeanette Lee.Predictions anyone? 2008 WPBA Championships - Day One Action

Lots of intersting stuff to talk about. On the pool side, there were a couple of first round upsets with Debbie Schjodt and Megan Minerich getting kicked to the one loss side after their first match. Thus far in the second round, Anna Kostanian got bounced to the one loss bracket, losing 9-8 to Joanne Ashton.In other news, it seems that the WPBA/TAR experiment is off to a rough start. Apparently the number of people watching the event was way below what was expected. I don’t feel much like writing about it though, so if you want the details you should check the discussion thread about the lack of viewers on the AZBilliards site.Back tomorrow when I’m in a less craptastic mood.
