All members are given the opportunity to represent The Ohio State University through competitions, fundraising, social events, and community service. WHO CAN JOIN? We proudly invite you to become a part of Ohio State's first, competitive synchronized skating team. Anyone who is a part or full-time student of The Ohio State Universeity can try-out for the synchronized skating team. We encourage all levels to try-out, so please join us! [Save The Date! (PDF Document)] WHERE AND WHEN DO WE SKATE? We skate at The Ohio State University Ice Rink, located at 390 Woody Hayes Drive, next to St. John's Arena. The team will have on-ice practice Sunday evenings, off-ice practice one night per week, and complete weight training sessions twice per week. The team will travel to at least 3 competitions and perform for various events throughout the year. Please view our team brochure to find out more information! [ OSU Synchro Brochure (PDF Document) 209.51 KB] PROGRAM FEES The synchronized skating team is recognized as a club sport through the Recreational Sports Department. Because the team is not a fully-funded varsity sport, the team relies heavily on skaters’ dues, fundraising, and outside sponsorship to cover the costs of ice time, coaching fees, travel and competition expenses, uniforms (i.e. practice dress, competition dress, warm up, etc.), and other training expenses. In addition, each skater must become a member of The Ohio State University Figure Skating Club ($15.00) and the USFSA ($30.00). CLINIC INFORMATION A clinic will take place on Saturday, May 31st, 2008 from 5:45-7:45 pm at The Ohio State University ice rink. Skaters will be given an overview of the tryout procedure including specific training drills which will be evaluated at tryouts. Skaters only attending the clinic must include the $15.00 fee with the application in order to reserve a clinic position. Clinic attendance is mandatory for skaters wanting to tryout for the 2008 team. Skaters will learn the specific elements, foot-work patterns, grips and formations that will be evaluated during try-outs. TRYOUT INFORMATION Tryouts will take place on Saturday, June 7th, 2008 from 5:45-7:45 pm at The Ohio State University ice rink. In addition to displaying the skills learned during the clinic, skaters are required to perform a one minute program to music of choice that includes all of the following: one jump, one spin, and one footwork sequence (i.e. straight line, circular, figure eight, etc.). The $30.00 fee for the clinic and tryout must be included with the application in order to reserve a position at both sessions. Applications must be postmarked by Saturday, May 24TH, 2008. A fee of $10.00 will be assessed for late applications. [OSU Synchro Tryout Application (PDF Document) 163 KB] COACH'S BIO: MEGAN ELASKY The Ohio State University is proud to announce Megan Elasky as the head coach of our synchronized skating team. A Miami University alumnae, Elasky brings 19 years of figure and synchronized skating experience and 12 years of coaching experience to her position. During her three years with the Miami University Collegiate Synchronized Skating Team, Elasky helped lead the team and was decorated with the team’s Outstanding Skater Award. As a graduate student, she served as the Assistant Director of Figure Skating at Goggin Ice Arena at Miami University. Elasky earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Miami University in May 2003 and her Masters Degree in Sport Studies from Miami University in August 2006. © 2005, KEVIN TOOMEY.
