Newsweek Dialog to Wenjiabao
Posted by: adminin about China
29Oct
I read this news from American Newsweek and copy it here for sharing with you: In New York last week for the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao gave a rare exclusive interview to NEWSWEEK’s Fareed Zakaria. Wen, 66, is known for his openness and economic mastery, and has presided over some of the fastest growth in China’s history. He began the conversation by pledging to tell the truth and invited Zakaria to interrupt him, since Wen prefers dialogue to long-winded speeches. The two covered topics ranging from Tibet and Tiananmen Square to Darfur and human rights, from political philosophy to the U.S. elections, from the current financial crisis to the future of Chinese democracy. Excerpts: ZAKARIA:What do you think of the financial crisis affecting the United States? WEN: We should join hands and meet the crisis together. If the financial and economic system[s] in the United States go wrong, then the impact will be felt not only in this country, but also in China, in Asia and the world at large. Posted by: adminin world
27Oct
Halloween is one of the oldest holidays with origins going back thousands of yearsthe holiday we know as Halloween has many influences from many cultures over the centuries ,From the Roman’s Pomona Day ,to the celtic festival of Samhain ,to the Christian holidays of All Souls Days.Hundreds of years ago in what is now Great Britain and Northern France, lived the Celtics.the Celtics worshipped nature and had many gods ,with the sun god as their favorite. It was”he”who commanded their work and ther=ir rest times, and who made the earth beautiful and the crops grow. The Celtics celebrated their New Year on November 1st,It was celebrated every year with a festival and marked the end of the “season of the sun “and the beginning of “the season of darkness and cold”.The devil tossed a burning coal into a hollow pumpkin and ordered him to wander forever between Heaven and Hell with only the pumpkin to light his path. From that day to this he has been called “jack of the Lantern.”

The meaning of Carnival
Posted by: adminin world
24Oct
Carnival today is an international multicultural experience. But how did itbecomeso? To understand what carnical is all about,we need to look at the historyof America and the meeting of two cultures -European and African. Thearrival of Europeans in America, and the opening of huge farms and plantations, togrow cotton, fruit and vegetables, meant there was an immediate need for people towork on them. This marked the beginning of the slave trade .For more than twohundred years, until the beginning of the 19th century, when the trade was finallystopped, millions of people were taken by force from their homes in Africa andtransported to the New World to work as alaves.Six million were taken to theCaribben islands where there were British and French landowners. Naturally, the Europeans also imported their own festivals. So the slaves wereforced to watch as their masters celebrated carnival with food, drink, and maskeddances.in Trinidad, the slaves were began to hold their own carnivalcelebrations;they painted their faces white ,imitating their masters and makingfun of them. But at the same time they were continuing their own Africantraditions-such as walking round a village wearing masks and singing-acustomwhich they thought would bring good luck. When the slve trade was abolishedin 1838 the former slaves took over the carnival. It became more colourful andmore exciting than it had been before.Magnificent costumes were made and musicalbands created.Carnival became a celebration of freedom. With the passing oftime, the white inhabitants of the island began to take part in thecarnival,too-and they were welcomed by their former slaves.Carnival became a wayto unite different communities,as piople forgot their everyday problems andenjoyed themselves eating, drinking ,and dancing.Today, visitors from all over theworld come to this small state in the Caribbean to join in the fun.Carnival hasbecome a celebration of life itself.

Beijing Real Estate Market

17Oct
This year, the property market in the October holiday of what we called “the property market’s Golden Week” had a cheerless end. Although most property developers have been offering discounts to fight shrinking sales, the overall Beijing’s real estate market still can not rebound from its lows. Some datas indicate that during this October holiday the turnover in Beijing dropped dramatically compared with the same period of the previous year.

Culture: Foundation for Mutual Understanding Between China and Western Countries

Culture: Foundation for Mutual Understanding Between China and Western Countries(09/28/2001) The Asien-Pazifik-Wochen (Asia-Pacific Week) Berlin 2001, having lasted for two weeks, will be closed on September 30. China, with the rich and colorful programs, has successfully held this largest cultural exchange activity. If the stone-carved Buddhist image unearthed in the ruins of the Qingzhou Longxing Temple of Shandong Province and the 600-odd-year-old Kunju (opera of Kunshan in Jiangsu Province) represent the long-standing tradition of Chinese culture, then modern art exhibition and the opera staged by Guangdong Modern Dance Troupe give expression to the development of Chinese culture in modern time; if the play The General Bids Farewell to His Concubine and the performance given by the Inner Mongolian Chorus are the result of the meticulous work of artists, then the fire performance and shadow play staged by Shaanxi art troupe as well as Shandong Province’s Zibo festive lanterns that decorated the streets under the most magnificent pipal bo-trees in Berlin are the personification of folk aesthetic temperament and interest.
