While the Australians tackled hard, they couldn't match the Irish in skill with the ball. Irish star Cavanaugh scored first with a 3 point over. North Melbourne's Campbell earned a free kick within scoring range, but the kick was intercepted by the Irish goalkeeper. The Irish attack continued strongly throughout the first term but all they could manage was six more points. It was enough with Australia's only score coming from Port Adelaide's Daniel Motlop. It was only a point and the Irish had an eight point lead at 1/4 time. read more »Bookmark/Search this post with: Add new commentEmail this pagequote 2009 AFL Schedule Released by johnson — Sat, 2008-10-25 06:32 — Last Updated: Fri, 2008-11-14 15:02 Australian Football League NewsFixture New times, new teams under discussionAFL heavyweights Collingwood and Carlton are big winners in the 2009 schedule released in Melbourne, featuring three timeslots to be trialled with one eye on the league's future expansion plans. The 2009 season commences on Thursday, March 26 with traditional rivals Richmond and Carlton clashing at the MCG, followed by the grand final rematch between Hawthorn and Geelong at the same venue the following night. It was announced on Wednesday and confirmed today that Setanta will begin appearing on cable systems in northern Virginia owned by Cox Communications. That will eventually be followed by wider distribution on Cox systems nationwide. The cost is expected to be similar to that of existing outlets, about $14.99 per month, on a subscription basis. At this time no definitive schedule for the rollout on Cox has been released but it will likely take several months or more. Thus it is not known how soon viewers on Cox systems can expect it to be available in their area of the United States (fans are encouraged to call their local Cox cable office but understand that they may not know the local rollout date just yet). Initial areas to get Setanta will be the Cox systems in Fredericksburg and Fairfax, Virginia. Cox has indicated Fairfax area fans may subscribe as early as today (ch. 298), and Fredericksburg will follow soon. Up to this time, Setanta has only been available via satellite, Verizon FiOS, and IPTV systems. AFANA will provide updated information on our TV pages as it becomes available.Bookmark/Search this post with: 1 commentEmail this pagequote Troubled Didak Still A Pie by Scott Lockhart — Mon, 2008-10-06 23:48 — Last Updated: Tue, 2008-10-14 14:03 Collingwood MagpiesPort Adelaide PowerAustralian Football League NewsAlan DidakBest and FairestPeter RhodeTrade Week We can work it out...Alan Didak looks set to remain with Collingwood despite being essentially sacked for misconduct just two months ago.One could be forgiven for being certain that Didak had worn the black and white for the final time after he was suspended by the club for a drink driving accident and his subsequent lies to the football club in August. read more »Bookmark/Search this post with: Add new commentEmail this pagequote Post Grand Final News by Lisa Albergo — Sun, 2008-10-05 13:48 — Last Updated: Tue, 2008-10-14 13:59 AFL TribunalAustralian Football League NewsMilestonesAFL AwardsClub Awards The season may be over, but business continues...Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell was reported during the Grand Final for forceful front-on contact against Geelong's Gary Ablett. The Match Review Panel (MRP) reviewed the incident and determined that Mitchell's contact on Ablett was caused by Mitchell being pushed into Ablett by Cat Cameron Ling. The MRP further determined that Mitchell did try to minimize the impact by trying to slow down before making contact with Ablett. They also determined that most of the contact was made to Ablett's shoulder and that the minimal contact made by Mitchell to Ablett's head was an attempt by Mitchell to protect himself.
