Trail Orienteering
TRAIL ORIENTEERING
Conventional orienteering
combines fast running with precise navigation, typically through
forests or over moorland. Trail Orienteering (Trail O) is a
discipline of the sport designed so that people with disabilities
could have meaningful orienteering competitions. It completely
eliminates the element of speed over the ground, but makes the
map-interpretation element much harder. Able-bodied people can
compete on equal terms with the disabled.
This site is maintained by Anne Braggins, who
chairs the International Orienteering Federation's Trail O Commission.
This website contains:
A more detailed introduction,
another article introducing Trail O, and some examples of 'answers'
with explanations
An illustrated leaflet in Adobe Acrobat format
which can be downloaded for printing
Information about permanent Trail O
courses
Information for event officials (controllers,
planners, mappers, and organizers), including the
IOF Controllers' Clinics with material added in January and July 2006
and August 2007, including an example results
calculation spreadsheet in Excel and Swedish
Guidelines (in English) for Pre O
