If you have been to ski shows in the past, you know that by the time you leave you'll be be so stoked you could head right for an indoor ski dome, if, in fact, there were any around. If you have never been to a ski show you owe it to yourself and your family to try to make one next weekend just to check out the hype.
Here's a preview of what you'll find at most every ski and snowboard show:
The latest and hottest skiing and riding videos being shown non-stop
Door prizes all day for free lift tickets, apparel and gear
Usually at least one major destination vacation drawing
Representatives from ski areas large and small
Some kind of indoor skiing or riding demonstrations
Great bargains on 08/09 and on past year's skis and gear
Show only deals on lift tickets, season passes and ski vacations
One or two skiing or riding stars
Boston is one of three cities in the U.S. hosting really big ski and snowboard shows this coming weekend. Expos are also set for Sacramento and Las Vegas, so if you are in any of those areas try and make it out at least for one day. If you have to travel to get there, make it weekend trip and take in two days. Actually I'm heading over to the Boston Globe Ski and Snowboard Expo, and I'll share the scoop on this really big show that has been going strong for 27 years.

Comments (0)PermalinkLights, Camera, Action - Santa Turns On the Ski ChannelMonday November 17, 2008Steve Bellamy, Chairman and CEO of The Ski Channel, announced today that the network will launch on December 25th - making the network available to over 15 million digital U.S. households.
“It has been an incredible month for us,” said Bellamy. “We closed a significant capital raise. If we close all the ad deals on the table – we will hit our first years number before we launch, we have added a ton of incredible programming, we will be announcing more distribution shortly and we are launching on Christmas Day!"
In the run up to the premier date, The Ski Channel has corralled an all-star lineup of corporate partners including Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Brighthouse Networks, Panasonic, Marquis Jets, Fender Guitars, Mirage Resorts, Rage Films, Ride Guide, World Heli Championships, Teva Mountain Games, Level One Productions, Skiers World, and Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley.
Bellamy also announced today that the network has additionally signed multi-year distribution agreements with two more major broadcast carriers -DIRECTV and Verizon FiOSTV. Verizon FiOSTV is currently available to more than 8.2 million homes in 14 states and DIRECTV, the nation's leading satellite television service provider, presents wireless television experience to more than 17.1 million customers.
The Ski Channel will be the only national television network devoted to the wide variety of year-round mountain activities such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, backpacking, climbing, etc., along with many off-slope activities. If you love skiing it's pretty much a given that you also love a lot more about the outdoors. The fact that The Ski Channel has extended its programming beyond its name, to cover what we all find great about the great outdoors, will guarantee it will be on the preset buttons of millions of remotes.
Oh! To sweeten the Christmas pie a little more, Steve Bellamy also announced a deal with Mountain Sports Media to broadcast on The Ski Channel some of the most famous films in skiing, from the Warren Miller Entertainment library, as well as Mountain Sports Media television series Thrills and Spills.
I'm not saying I won't be skiing on Christmas, but you can bet I'll be watching a little TV during the day.
