The
Natural Horse has been set up to primarily
educate people in the art of Classical Riding, Balanced Riding or
whatever people wish to call it, and the Holistic care of our horses.
As a Classical Riding Instructor I
have tried over the past 10 years to encourage people to learn how to
ride their horses, no matter what the breed, with patience, subtle
weight changes, the least possible tack and to allow the horse to do the
work; we as riders do far too much work which in turn disturbs the horse’s
balance, as it strives to listen to our commands and carry them out.
I am not a great believer in using
hands or legs unless they are required and even then, I expect my pupils
to use the least possible force and try to introduce them to the beauty
of the horse if we sit calmly and quietly and allow it to move freely
without excess hindrance from the rider.
I hope this site develops to
become a real learning experience in the art of Classical Riding and the
correct type of training to start a young horse off on the right hoof,
so to speak.
I was introduced to this style of
riding by watching a young lady trainer at a local stud who could get
horses to do whatever she wanted and without any force involved. She
took what they had to offer and built on this. I spent many hours just
watching her train horses and always came away with a little bit more
knowledge. When these little gems of wisdom appeared to work well with
my own horse, I knew I had no option but to learn to ride in this
manner.
My interest was further
enlightened, by Sylvia Loch who I believe brought home to so many
riders, the art of riding with the balanced seat, which is in essence
what we all strive for. I am proud to be on her Classical Riders’
Instructors list and hope that I will always strive for perfection, no
matter how long it takes.
My other main interest is the
treatment of horses using holistic therapies.
Having lost my horse, Ali, long
before his time was up, possibly due to the ongoing and long term
adverse effects of routine vaccination and antibiotic resistance, I am
determined to do all I can to inform people of the possible dangers of
vaccines.
After his very first inocculation,
Ali suffered from a myriad of problems for the rest of his life. It was
– and is – hard for many people to believe that these problems could
be related in any way to a routine vaccination. But, recently, some of
the more enlightened professionals have begun to take on board the fact
that an increasing number of equines do seem to react badly to
some vaccines.
At the time, though, I felt that I
was a lone voice in the wilderness! How Ali kept going is a complete
mystery to me. But we had a very special bond and a mutual respect and
love for each other which I have no doubt was what kept us both going in
times of dire stress.
While taking on the care of Ali, I
learned a lot in a short time about Holistic Therapies. Many people
tried to help, but it was difficult at the time to separate out the
genuine therapies and products from gimmicks or nine-day wonders.
Unfortunately, nothing seemed to work for Ali.
But, he taught me so much and I
owe him a huge debt of thanks. And, I hope this website will, in time,
help others not to make the mistakes I made. Looking back I can see all
that went wrong so clearly.
This site is dedicated to one of
the most beautiful creatures I have ever known. His patience, kindness
and sense of humour are what I remember most.
His love of life was taken from him far too soon.
I lost my best friend and words cannot explain just how much I miss him.
