The pageant attracts those interested in supporting the sport of rodeo and representing our Annual Lakeside Rodeo. Not only do these women have to be knowledgeable in rodeo and current events, they have to be able to ride a horse extremely well. Emily Gay, Miss Rodeo Lakeside 2008, knows what it takes to successfully carry the rodeo queen title. “I love talking to the public about the dedication it takes to live a rodeo lifestyle,” said a 23-year-old Gay. “And there is no honor I’d rather have than being able to represent our rodeo as Miss Rodeo Lakeside.” She also promotes the goals of the Lakeside Rodeo, an to children throughout the county. She also promotes the goals of the Lakeside Rodeo, an annual fundraiser. Lakeside Rodeo Princess Janae Krull accompanies Emily to all Lakeside Rodeo events sharing the benefits this local rodeo brings to Lakeside. “I am proud that the Lakeside Rodeo is a non-profit organization that donates over $100,000 to the youth of Lakeside each year,” says Janae, a 19-year-old Grossmont College student. “Our rodeo is an entertainment destination for San Diego County families and also a vital fundraiser for Lakeside children.” Winning the Miss Rodeo Lakeside crown is no easy task. Contestants have a full competition day with a horsemanship pattern, written test and personality interview, and end with modeling, two impromptu questions and a short speech. Contestants start practicing together weeks before the pageant to fine-tune their skills for the final night.
