Nelson leads Magic over Raptors, 103-90
Magic guard J.J. Redick made the first start of his three-year career and scored 10 points. Redick, a former national college player of the year, played in only six of Orlando's first 10 games.He played in place of Mickeal Pietrus, who bruised ribs in Sunday's win over Charlotte.Coach Stan Van Gundy started Redick in place of Keith Bogans, who normally comes in for Pietrus, because the coach said he didn't want to disturb his rotation. Bogans had 3 points in 20 minutes.Orlando finally got a respite from it's 3-point shooting woes. The Magic, who made 801 3s last season, second-best in NBA history, had been shooting only 31.3 percent this season, 24th in the league.They made 11 of 23 on Tuesday night.Read full article...

Redick To Start For Magic

Redick, the Magic's popular and rarely used guard, gets his first NBA start tonight against the Toronto Raptors.The 6-foot-4 Redick, the highest scorer in ACC history while at Duke, will replace Mickael Pietrus at shooting guard.Pietrus bruised some ribs in a fall at Charlotte on Sunday and "could barely get up and down the floor" during Tuesday's shootaround, according to coach Stan Van Gundy.Now in his third NBA season, Redick has played in 82 games, most of them for only a few minutes at the end. The Orlando crowd gets very excited when he gets in, but his defensive deficiencies have kept him on the bench."He's not a good shooter, he's a great shooter," Van Gundy said, "and I think he's a very good offensive player. He's very intelligent and he knows what we're doing.He just has to go out there and avoid pressing, thinking he has to score x number of points or take x number of shots."Redick played in six of the Magic's first 10 games for a total of 49 minutes, missing all 10 of his shots.Source: TheLedger.com

Frustrated Redick seeks playing time
Saying somewhat disgustedly he feels that "I'm in the same position that I've been in," shooting guard J.J. Redick fears he's once again out of the Orlando Magic rotation for good.Redick was one of the Magic's best players in preseason, earning a spot in Stan Van Gundy's regular rotation off the bench after two years of being mostly buried there. But Redick struggled to start the regular season, missing all eight of his shots in the first three games.Redick, a former collegiate player of the year and Orlando's No. 11 overall draft pick in 2006, has played just eight minutes of garbage time in the five games since being pulled out of the rotation. No lingering effects from foot injury
Magic reserve shooting guard J.J. Redick said there are no lingering effects from a foot injury that made him unavailable for last Thursday's game against Philadelphia. Redick said the injury to a tendon in his upper left foot is different than the one he struggled with two years ago during his rookie season. Said Redick: "It's just tendinitis. Magic search for bench energy
From John Denton/Florida Today:Lee could get the minutes of Redick, who has gotten off to a nightmarish start after finally working his way into the rotation. Redick, a seldom-used reserve much of the previous two seasons, beat out Bogans with some stellar play in the preseason. But he has missed all eight of his shots so far, including four misses from 3-point range. Making matters worse, Redick has fired up three airballs and had another shot blocked."I feel bad for him because he's off to a rough start," Van Gundy said. "He just needs one shot to go down and he'll be fine. I can see him pressing a little. If it had been 2-0 you could have let him sort of play through it.
