Okay, so that whole Rhode Island thing is behind us, and look, as fun as it is to beat up the team and the coaching staff over what could have been a really, seriously disappointing loss, well, Duke won. So let's wait to see if there are any trends afoot before wallowing in doom and gloom. Fair? Duke returns to MSG, where it hasn't played in several months at least, to take on Southern Illinois. Did you know that a Saluki is an especially speedy hunting dog? It was first domesticated in Carbondale many thousands of years ago, or maybe that was ancient Egypt. Who can tell? However, apparently these characters can run 48 miles an hour, making them only slightly faster than Mark Cuban dumping dotcom stock off some critical inside information. Even faster that that are emigrees from the Kentucky basketball bandwagon, which is good considering their coming beatdown at the hands of Crylerless UNC-CH. Hey, does Ashley Judd still go to all the games and get all goofy with the face paint and blue shirts? Or is she just an open-wheel racing snob now? Hmmm. Interesting. Matt and duhomme have, as usual, more questions than answers, meaning that no further time-wasting is in order. So admire the blindingly fast work of Aruba law enforcement officials, praise the even quicker work of Port St. Lucie, FL police in not being too hasty in fingering any particular bread-meat-condiment combo in a heinous act of criminality, wave a fond ahhhhhhhseya to the Senate's only convicted felon and . . . read on:

Ram tough? I guess so, and hey, we underestimated URI along with Coach K, so we're returning our game check as well. Awesome November thriller or dire harbinger? Oh, and the icicle is an inside joke, not a reflection of Duke's offensive performance. Let's find out what happened here - - after the jump.

As proof that we can keep our word around here for three or four days (max), this third edition of the thus-far interesting season features the debut of . . . UNC-Chapel Hill discussion! From cradle to grave, from womb to tomb! Yes, we are now giving Duke's storied little rivals (the real ones - - pipe down, Sweaty!) the same treatment that we accord the Blue Devils themselves. With, of course, 4,000% more snark directed at the non-team of record. And that's just for openers; we expect that figure to increase in the days and weeks ahead. So this is a special early-season doubleheader, and Matt and duhomme shuffle in and mumble something about THE FANTASTIC PENN QUAKERS visiting the DumpDome in the opening salvo of UNC-CH's absolutely death-defying OOC schedule. What, the Washington Generals weren't available? Then, there's full - - or was it roughly half, being generous - - coverage of Duke's first-ever regular season sitdown with Rhode Island. Fun fact: did you know that the nation's smallest state by land area is formally named "The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations"? Matt's never gotten tired of that since seeing it on some official state document a few years ago, and now, seven more people are hereby on notice and aware of it. Congratulations!Listen, will the injury-riddled Tools drop the hammer on poor Penn? Will Duke continue to overwhelm opponents with waves of dudes, swarming defense, and flying glass and iron during free throws? Will this game be broadcast on ESPNU back in Quahog so the Griffin family can catch it? We have no idea, so with that firmly in mind, look, buddy - - watch where you point that Cockatoo, please be polite and remember to say it, don't spray it, toss your hat in the wide-open ring for Tallahassee's 2008 Citizen of the Year Award and . . . read on:

Things move fast around here, as Matt and duhomme toy with a 24-hour turnaround the way a Weimaraner toys with a Doberman. And that, Len Elmore, IS OUR VERY FIRST DOG BREED REFERENCE EVER MAY-ADE ON THIS WEBPAY-AGE!! Awesome. Speaking of dogs, that opening outing was a little . . . well, mangy, but here's hoping that the Blue Devils can bounce back and give the Cameron crowd (which was in very good, midseason form) some better gameplay against the GSU Eagles. As for the Two Dukies, well, there's nowhere to go but up; but then, we're glass-three-quarters empty-outlook types around here.SPECIAL BONUS: Actual, notarized game recap included within! Click if you dare! So please, somebody close that door, maintain presidential-level decorum at all times, for goodness' sakes, try Craigslist or something to replace those deadbeat roommates of yours and . . . read on:

We're back! We're back! Just like the Governator, or the impish phantoms in Poltergeist, and it probably is true that we make that joke every season. Who writes this opening trash? Never you mind, but Two Dukies Pick the ACC is back, and it's either better than ever, or about the same as last season. Hell, there may even be a steep decline in quality only partially discernible to our instruments, but we're a little pressed, so let's get on board and iron out the brass tacks later. There's Hose to be harvested! What? Sorry, didn't follow that particular metaphor-mixing party, but let's join Matt and duhomme as they break small parts of it all down and finance the whole thing on Doug Gottlieb's credit card. Change is afoot, too! Literally. See inside for more. So study the evolutionary stages of American aspirants for high office, call the locals *before* you start staging any gunplay, not after, show me your license, registration, and proof of vaccinations and . . . read on:

Well. How ya doin'? We sure hope that you good folks out there didn't wear out those web browsers visiting the site over the summer. Or, if you did, we assume you helped clear the cobwebs and TRS-80 parts away. Thanks. Yeah, not so much with holding down the "offseason news hotspot" angle there, were we . . . but look, it's like this. This site is as draining and energy-sapping to create as it is for you to read. And there was baseball. And, oh yes, a presidential election of some kind. I wonder if we'll have occasion to work any of THAT into the material on a going-forward basis. My friends. Also. Anyway, by now you've realized that this is just some sort of incoherent rambling, and the first edition of Two Dukies Pick the ACC is not yet here. You are, indeed, a worthy adversary. But despair not, as Matt and duhomme are gearing up to bring you everything you need to know before the Blue Devils take the hardwood on Monday night against . . . some religious dude. Okay! Anyway, look for that piece of proselytizing (don't spell check me - - I'm almost infallible) a bit later on Sunday. And before then, there will be a few other news items as well, like how we're going to run things this year. The system, you see, is changing, yea verily after 11 seasons. But you won't be disappointed, if only because we all met the other day to discuss it in a handy nearby phone booth, and it wasn't hard to hear the announcement. And with that, please, vote in the new poll, and let's put that key in the ignition, or press the "START" button if you drive a vehicle maufactured by a country that lost World War II, and crank it up already. I mean, seriously. The last post was in like April or something. (Don't check.) Get ready!
