Australian Youth International- Perth WA
Monday, 13-October-2008
The meet was conducted under strict UIPM rules. Independent international shooting and fencing judges perfomed all referring and range officer duties. The running course was conducted over 2 laps of a 1500m circuit.
This competition was an international qualifying meet for Australian Youth pentathletes. Emily Esposito (3828) and Dee Whitehead (3720) both qualified for 2009 Youth A Worlds and for other 2009 international Youth international competitions.
MPWA newcomers to the sport, Daniel Kierath and Fiona Hannan certainly performed well and discovered just how hard pentathlon actually is! Alisa Chiba (Youth A athlete) from Japan had a very close run to the line with Dee which was exciting to watch.
The event was very successful. Cathy Whitehead has advised that she has been approached by other international federations about sending teams for the competition in 2009.
After the competition MPWA hosted a sausage sizzle on the Swan river and later a dinner in Fremantle. Results will be posted on this site.
Many thanks to Cathy Whithead and the MPWA team for conducting the first Australian Youth International. Its is hoped that it will become a regular fixture on the UIPM calender.

2. 18 October 2008 - Firearms safety course; Geelong pistol club
3. 16 November 2008- 4 event competition; Melbourne.
4. 30 November 2008- MPV Equathon; Mansfield Pony Club
5. 7 December 2008- 4 event competition; Melbourne.
6. 14 March 2009 - Open Victorian Championship; Melbourne.

Riding Licences

MPA requires that all competitiors to have a riding license before competiting in a riding event of a Modern Pentathlon Competition.
In order to obtain such a license all athletes are required to obtain certification from an acredited EFA riding instrctor as to the athletes ability to complete a Modern Pentathlon jumping course.
A list of EFA accredited instructors can be found on the EFA's website.
Australian International Competitions

The Oceanic Championships will be conducted in Melbourne commencing 24 January 2009.
The Open Australian Championships will be conducted in Sydney commencing 31 January 2009.
Its hoped that given the relatively short period of time between both competitions, international athletes will take the opportunity of travelling and competiting in both competitions.

2008 Australian Championships

The 2008 Australian Championships were conducted on 21 and 22 June 2008. MPA was pleased to have a number of Athletes attend the Championships from Modern Pentathlon New Zealand.
Congradulations to Charlotte Curnow and Alex Parygin in winning the national title. For Charlotte it is her first national title with a total score of 4808 pionts. Scott Peterson finished in an exciting second place just missing running down Alex on the finishing line.
