They are generally shorter in stature, but typically more muscular and can carry large riders easily.Haflingers inherently have a genuine willing attitude and are friendly towards people, adopting themselves easily into your family. Most Haflingers are easy keepers, have a long life span, and are highly intelligent. They learn quickly and easily.Haflingers range in height from 13 to 16 hands~14 being most common although the trend is for the taller Hafys. All Haflingers have wide-spaced eyes with smaller ears, a strong, arched neck and a well-sprung body. They have a broad chest and rump, strong, big-boned legs and hard hooves. Many do not need shoes. In Austria, Haflingers are referred to as "Palomino Ponies". They range in color from light to dark chocolate. Most are chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail.
