CBOA General Meeting
The next general meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at St. Francis High School (877 Northmount Dr. NW) starting at 6:30 PM. It is imperative that all officials attend this meeting, as well as all the other meetings. The format of our meetings has been revamped to make them more succinct and to the point and will include stronger education sessions which will include video and more question and answer sessions in smaller groups.
Rookie Clinic
The Rookie Clinic this year will occur on November 4, 6 11 and 13, at St. Francis High School. The clinic will conclude with a tournament in which the newer graduates will be provided an opportunity to officiate. Start time to be determined. Those interested in enrolling are to contact Mike Bittante at education@cboa.ca. There is no charge for attending.
CBOA Newsletter
The CBOA has published the first edition of its newsletter. Access to this publication is restricted to members only and can be viewed through the Arbiter program.
Headwear
Recent events in other sports and early games played in our own sport have required the ABOA to seek the position of our national body (CABO) and the international body (FIBA) responsible for the rules being currently used throughout the province.
FIBA's position is that the wearing of the hijab or other headwear for religious reasons is allowed as long as it does not constitute a risk of injury for the players (no hard object are permitted). It has been recommended that the hijab be tucked inside the collar of the jersey if possible.
