Posted on Sunday, May 13 Northern Parkour1 mile crawl for Sport Relief On Sunday the 16th of March, Paul, Dean, Scott, Ste, Anton and Sam will be taking part in the Sport Relief mile in Manchester. This is a charity event to raise money for comic relief. Hundreds of participants will be raising money by walking, jogging or running a mile. We've decided that it would be slightly more challenging for us if we crawled the mile. After a few weeks of training for the event, we now believe that we're in a pretty good position to tackle the whole mile. If you would like to sponsor us for this event, please visit our team page: Northern Parkour Team All donations go straight to comic relief. Thanks! Some existing video topics have been moved there, but please feel free to add links to your training videos, or similar footage which you think may be of interest to fellow traceurs. Danny's team from Sheffield did an excellent job of keeping the public entertained in the Manchester Arndale centre. Exchange Square, URBIS and Castlefield saw some of the Manchester regulars demonstrating their skills and spreading the word about parkour to members of the public. We had a lot of interest, and met a few potential new traceurs who may well be joining us at a training session in the near future. With an article for the Manchester Evening News, a piece for Channel M, and plenty of footage and interviews being filmed for the K Swiss website, the day was an overwhelming success. Keep an eye out on Channel M on monday morning between 8 and 9am for the feature. The K Swiss web documentary will be ready in a few weeks. For anyone who doesn't already know, K Swiss are running a competition with a prize of an all expenses paid trip to Paris/Lisses next spring. For more details, go to www.overunderthrough.co.uk Thanks to everyone who took part today! The BBC guys were here getting the final bits of footage needed to compliment the TRACEur Gathering footage they got a few weeks ago for their Inside Out programme, due to air sometime in October. We managed to get all the filming done by the early afternoon which was a pleasant surprise. We ended up with a large number of people training in Sheffield after the filming had finished as we were joined by various other groups during the day, to add to the guys who were down from Leeds for the day. When we know more about the exact broadcast date we'll let you know. Worries about the weather were completely unfounded as we had wall to wall sunshine for most of the three day event. Despite a few cases of mild sunburn, all 115 of us who went got stuck into some good training and I think the only people who weren't satisfied were those who wanted to know when next year's Gathering was going to be! Much credit goes to Jason for organising things and to the rest of the Trace Reps who led groups around the Peak District. Thanks also go to everyone who donated money to New Foundations and helped raise over £500 for a fantastic cause. Photos from the event can be found on the Trace website at www.tracehq.com The short version of the official video can be found HERE. Long version coming soon... For those of you who don't know, this is the trainer that's being billed as the first trainer to be designed specifically for freerunning using input from freerunners. Full press release can be found HERE. Anyway, aside from producing the trainer, KSwiss are also planning a series of regional workshops with Team Traceur and Sebastien Foucan so keep an eye out, with any luck we might have a few new people to train with soon (for some of us anyway). On the Saturday a whole bunch of guys from Sheffield and Manchester were busy giving demonstrations and talking to people throughout the morning and afternoon. The weather was fantastic and the demonstrations attracted a fair number of people, some of whom came back the following day especially. The talk in the evening was on too late to attract much of an audience (being just before the event closed) but it was received well by the handful of event staff who were there! The weather on the Sunday was not so good and it rained heavily for most of the day. Attendance at the event was down but neither that nor the weather stopped us training, although we did mainly restrict ourselves to fitness and strength exercises. We were one of the few 'stands' still operating through Sunday afternoon and although we all got drenched we had a good time nevertheless. The ad-hoc obstacles we ended up with turned out to provide us with much entertainment. The scaffolding structures were great to move through and stable enough to jump between, while the hay bales provided endless fun. Roll on next year! It is billed as the UK's largest outdoor pursuits festival and will feature a range of outdoor activities and competitions, including: # The British Bouldering Championships. Held on a free-standing, purpose-built ‘boulder’. # The planetFear Ultra Sprint. This will be the most intense orienteering experience yet seen in the UK. # A Guinness World Dyno competition with £1,000 in prize money, open to all and free to enter. Some of our Sheffield members will be running a parkour tent to educate festival-goers and putting on demonstrations on a purpose built obstacle course throughout both days. The parkour tent should be good fun and anyone wanting to help out should get in touch with Ben. The rest of the festival should be pretty spectacular so it should be a good weekend for all involved. I've been contacted (pun unavoidable) by a guy that works at the Contact Theatre where the workshops are being held and sent a press release type sheet with some of the details. The guys seem to be reasonably experienced dance performers but unfortunately I've never heard of them before so I can't vouch for their parkour ability. From what little I've seen I suspect that the workshop is likely to be more freerunning and precious little parkour but I'm planning on going down to check it out and see what's going on.
