Synchronized Skating Club
Overview
The Cornell University
Synchronized Skating Team is composed of a group of dedicated Cornell
skaters, who every year choreograph a program, practice, and compete in the
Collegiate division of USFSA Synchronized Skating. Team practices begin in
September and continue through the end of competition season. Our practice
times may vary depending on where we are in the competition season, but
generally include biweekly practices on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. We also often hold off-ice practices.
The Synchronized Skating
Team is always looking for new members! USFSA rules mandate that all
members of any collegiate team have passed Juvenile Moves in the Field. If
you are interested in joining the team but still have tests to pass, please
contact Patty (pjs62@cornell.edu)
for more information about testing. If you are interested in joining the
Synchronized Skating Team listserv, please contact Annmarie Boyle
(amb278@cornell.edu).
History
The Synchronized Skating
Team is a fairly new club sport at Cornell, having begun during the 2002-03
school year under the leadership of Keri VerSchure, a former Haydenette.
Pamela Malchoff and Katy Frankel were the original team captains. Keri led
the team to a 10th place finish in the Collegiate division at Nationals in
Huntsville, Alabama, the highest finish of any first-year team.
The following year,
2003-04, the team did not compete. It returned, though, during the 2004-05
school year, with a new coach, Megan Malone, and finished 8th in its
qualifying group at nationals in Lowell, MA. In 2005-06, the team finished
8th at Easterns in Duluth, Georgia, 26-29 January.
This past year, 2006-7,
the team reached a new high under the leadership of coaches Annmarie Boyle
and Allison Miller. The team placed 6th at Easterns in Providence, Rhode
Island, thereby qualifying it for Nationals for the first time in the team's
history. The thrilled team traveled to Nationals in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, placed 12th in the nation, and received a personal best score.
Our Goals
The goal for the
year is simple: qualify for nationals. Under the new leadership of former
captain Annmarie Boyle and new co-captain Jennifer Rogers, the team looks
better than ever.
