The pre-season basketball magazines are starting to hit the newsstands and UMBC, the defending champs, are being selected to finish between third and fifth place. Do you agree or disagree with these rankings? Agree...given the strengths of some of the other squads and UMBC's losses, this is right where the Retrievers will finish.Disagree...UMBC has two First Team All Conference players returning and an underrated supporting cast, so the dawgs will occupy one of the top two slots at season's end.Disagree...the loss of scoring punch will send UMBC to the lower half of the America East standings.Click Here to ViewPoll Archives

But all good things must come to an end, and this memorable campaign did for the Retrievers today. They fought valiantly but fell to the second-seeded Georgetown Hoyas, 66-47, in the first round of the Midwest regional of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The sold out crowd of 19,477 and a national televised audience witnessed the scrappy and beloved Retrievers (24-9) pester the Hoyas (28-5) into 15 turnovers. However, UMBC could not crack the top defense in the nation and scored a season-low 47 points in the defeat.

Hodges has been in the starting lineup just three times this season for the Retrievers, who over the past two years have discovered quite the sixth man in their rotation. This season, Hodges leads the team with a 16.2-point average despite playing just 24.9 minutes per game.
