Red Sox Nation Takes Lavarnway in Sixth Round
Yale catcher Ryan Lavarnway was selected by the Boston Red Sox in as the 202nd overall pick of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. In all, eight current Ivy League baseball players were picked up by franchises.
Columbia's Cox Named Louisville Slugger All-American
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and Louisville Slugger announced their Freshmen All-American team on June 4. Columbia's Nick Cox was one of 20 outfielders in the country to earn the honor. The Ivy League Rookie of the Year is the second player in the history of Columbia baseball to earn the honor.
Pitching Heroics Doom Columbia in Conway Regional
The Columbia baseball team fell victim to a pitching spectacle in an elimination game with East Carolina in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Senior T.J. Hose went the distance for the Pirates, completing a four-hit shutout in the 9-0 victory. The Ivy champions finish the year 22-30.
Columbia Falls 10-2 at Coastal Carolina Region
The Columbia baseball team showed that it belonged in the NCAA Baseball Championship in Conway, S.C. in the early innings against Coastal Carolina. But the Chanticleers eventually solved Bill Purdy and pulled away late, 10-2. The Lions will play an elimination game against East Carolina on Saturday at 1 pm.
Brown Baseball Duo Named Academic All-Americans
Senior Brown baseball players Conor Reardon and J.J. Eno have been selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America teams by members of the College Sports Information Directors Association. Reardon was named to the University Division second-team while Eno made the third-team.
Columbia Gets Unexpected Draw in NCAA Baseball
If ever there was a microcosm of a season, the Columbia Lions NCAA draw might just be that. In an "expect the unexpected" year, the Lions completed the improbable rise to the Ivy championship after a 0-9 start and finished 22-28. Conventional wisdom would suggest that a sub-.500 team would be at the mercy of a Top-8 squad, but Columbia found itself in a surprising location — at No. 21 Coastal Carolina.
All-Ivy Baseball (2008)
Columbia's Henry Perkins hit .384 in Ivy play with six doubles, three triples and two home runs. The everyday player was also an extremely effective spot pitcher and fielder, posting a .980 fielding percentage in addition to a heavy bat. He is the 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year.
Ten Baseball Ivies Selected to CoSIDA All-District Teams
Ten Ivy League Baseball players have been selected to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams. Half of the 10 total Ivies selected came from Brown. Harvard, Penn and Yale also had at least one player selected. First-team selections will be forwarded for Academic All-America honors.
Lions Roar in Decisive Third Game
Rome wasn't built in a day, and the Ivy League Baseball Championship certainly wasn't decided in one. After a postponement from the weekend, and two high scoring affairs, the Columbia Lions took the deciding game, 7-5.

Princeton's Spencer Lucian raised his batting average by 23 points to .433 following a weekend against Cornell in which he went 6 for 10 (.600) with five rbis and seven runs scored. Lucian highlighted the weekend with four extra base hits and Player of the Week honors.
Dartmouth to Host Lions for Ivy Baseball Championship
The Dartmouth baseball team has earned the chance to host the Ivy League Championship Series after winning a tie-breaker and will host Columbia in a best-of-three beginning on Saturday with a twin bill at 12 p.m. at Red Rolfe Field. Game 3 will be held Sunday, if necessary.
Ivy Weekly Baseball Awards 7 - 4/22
Harvard's Shawn Haviland earned a win and a save over the weekend as part of a four-game sweep of Brown. The senior also threw a scoreless inning of relief at Fenway Park against Northeastern. For the week, he threw 9.1 innings, struck out eight and did not allow an earned run.

Dartmouth senior Damon Wright finished a 4-1 week for the Big Green with a .471 batting average. He drove in six runs, courtesy of two home runs, and scored six more runs of his own. For the week, the Player of the Week had 15 total bases to go along with an .882 slugging percentage.

Penn's Steve Gable continues to provide consistent offense at the top of the order for Quakers. He is on an 18-game hitting streak and has hits in all but two of Penn’s 23 games. He leads the Quakers with a .465 batting average and is the Ivy Player of the Week selection.

Junior Michael Pagliarulo has been a main contributor to the recent success for Dartmouth — which enjoyed a 5-0 week. He sported a robust .545 average with eight runs, seven RBI, two home runs and a double. His efforts are rewarded with Co-Player of the Week honors, sharing with Yale's Ryan Lavarnway, who was also impressive.

As the 2008 Opening Day Major League Baseball rosters were finalized, the Ivy League has added to its growing list of professional baseball players. All in all, the League has six on active 25-man rosters.

Penn's O'Malley Elected to National Baseball Hall of Fame
Penn graduate and longtime supporter of Penn baseball Walter O'Malley, C'26, was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. He is the first graduate from Penn to receive such an honor.
Ross Joins The Boss
Ross Ohlendorf, a former Ivy League Rookie of the Year and All-Ivy selection with the Princeton baseball team, was called up to the New York Yankees on Sunday. Update: Ohlendorf threw a perfect ninth inning to preserve a 9-2 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday night in his MLB debut.
Baseball America Honors Lavarnway
Baseball America has released its annual list of top prospects from 19 wood-bat summer collegiate leagues, and Yale junior catcher Ryan Lavarnway was the only Ivy League player among the 210 selected.
Chris Young Named to National League All-Star Team
Former Princeton two-sport standout, Chris Young, has become the sixth Ivy Leaguer to be named an MLB All-Star after receiving over 4.5 million votes in the National League's portion of the Final Vote.
Lavarnway Named Third Team All-American
Baseball America has released its annual College All-America Team, and Yale sophomore Ryan Lavarnway has been named to the third team as an outfielder. He is the only Ivy Leaguer on the squad and Yale's first All-American since 1996.

Yale sophomore Ryan Lavarnway is one of 10 semifinalists still in the running for the College Baseball Foundation's Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Award. The semifinalists represent nine schools in eight conferences.

Brown catcher and 2007 Ivy League Player of the Year Devin Thomas was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the seventh round (241st overall) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Brown Baseball Bows Out of NCAA Regionals
In a first-class pitchers' duel, the Brown baseball team was eliminated from the NCAA Regionals, falling 4-2 to Wake Forest. Senior James Cramphin went 8.2 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and one walk.

Brown junior J.J. Eno, of Kahului, Hawaii, has been named a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-American. A neuroscience concentrator, Eno becomes the League's 10th Academic All-American of the school year.
Brown Baseball To Texas for NCAA Regional
The Brown baseball team will play at the NCAA Regional hosted by the University of Texas and held in Round Rock, Texas, later this week. The No. 4 seed Bears will play Texas in the opening round, while UC Irvine will play Wake Forest.
All-Ivy Baseball (2007)
Brown senior catcher Devin Thomas, who hit .382 with 15 home runs this season, was the unanimous pick as the Ivy League Player of the Year to head the 2007 All-Ivy baseball selections.
Bears Claw First Baseball Championship
The Brown Bears have completed the first Ivy League Baseball Championship in the program's history.
The Bears defeated the Penn Quakers in two straight games — 1-0 and 20-6 — to claim the title.
