WINONA, MN -- Winona State University head women's basketball coach Scott Ballard has announced that Shannon Schonrock has been hired a the Warriors' Assistant Women's basketball coach.
"Shannon has good knowledge of the game and is very good at relating to our players and teaching fundamentals," said Ballard. "She has a great work ethic and personality and is a good fit for our program."
Schonrock comes to the Warrior program after a very successful prep career at Blue Earth, MN Area High School and collegiate career with the University of Minnesota women's basketball program. Shonrock played four years with the Gophers and played 102 consecutive starts at guard and 107 games overall. She was a three-time Gopher Team Captain, who was named the Gopher MVP in ‘06 and received All-Big Ten Conference honorable mention in ‘05.
"I am excited and thankful to have this opportunity to continue coaching at Winona State University," said Schonrock. "Being a part of this top-notch athletic department, along with coaching with Scott Ballard and working with the student-athletes is a very reward experience.
"I look forward to the new challenges and responsibilities that lie ahead."
While at Minnesota, Schonrock and the Gophers competed in four NCAA tournaments, reaching the Final Four once and the Sweet Sixteen three times and compiled a 95-33 record.
Schonrock was also a three-time academic All-Big Ten and two-time academic All-District honoree and she finished her collegiate career as the Gophers’ all-time leader in three-point field goals (230) and three-point field goal percentage (39.7).
"Shannon's reputation as a student-athlete at the University of Minnesota will help us with recruiting in the Upper Midwest region and give us instant credibility," added Ballard. "I feel very fortunate to have her on our staff and look forward to working with her."
