Ashley Holzer Places 12th in Grand Prix Freestyle at 2008 Olympic Games

Ashley Holzer of Toronto, ON, ended her third Olympic bid by placing 12th in the Grand Prix Freestyle and 14th place overall at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, China. Congratulations to the Canadian Showjumping Team on their Silver Medal!

Forty years after it last won a team medal, gold at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, the Canadian Show Jumping Team once again stood on the podium. Mac Cone of King City, ON, Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, ON, Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, and Ian Millar of Perth, ON, completed the Team Final with a total score of 20 faults, as did the United States, to force a jump-off for the Gold Medal. Ashley Holzer Makes History by Qualifying for Olympic Dressage Final!

Ashley Holzer of Toronto, ON, placed 15th in Saturday's Grand Prix Special to qualify for the Individual Final at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, China. Only the top 15 athletes from an original starting field of 47 qualify to contest the Grand Prix Freestyle, which acts as the Individual Final.Having placed 19th in the Grand Prix, the first individual qualifier, Holzer was among the top 25 riders who qualified to compete in Saturday night's Grand Prix Special. There, she and her horse, Pop Art, enjoyed an energetic performance highlighted by a strong piaffe and passage tour, considered the two most difficult movements in the Olympic test. They were rewarded with a score of 68.76% from the panel of five international judges."I thought he was great, I am thrilled with him," said Holzer of Pop Art, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by her parents, Ian and Moreen Nicoll, and her husband, Rusty Holzer. The Canadian Dressage Team maintained a top 9 team ranking at the 2008 Olympic Games, a feat even more impressive given that the team included a relative newcomer to the international Grand Prix ring (Leslie Reid's mount Orion) and a first-time Olympian (Jacqueline Brooks). Ashley Holzer was the highest placing Canadian earning 19th position in Thursday's Grand Prix Dressage competition to qualify for the individual competition at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, China. Langley’s Leslie Reid Opens Dressage Competition at 2008 Olympic Games

Leslie Reid of Langley, BC, was the epitome of grace under pressure as the first competitor for the Canadian Team on the opening day of Dressage competition on Wednesday, August 13, at the 2008 Olympic Games. Reid, 52, performed the Grand Prix test riding Orion, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by George and Patricia Hatch. She earned a provisional placing of 22nd from the panel of five international judges. Orion began to relax into his job toward the end of the test. “It was just too much atmosphere out there for him,” said Reid after her ride. Read more
