eight="38">Haute
Route
Travel
with Chauvin Guides International on what is unquestionably one of
the most famous and spectacular ski tours in the world. The Haute
Route traverses through the heart of the Alps providing the opportunity
for outstanding ski ascents and descents on every stage of the tour.
It really is a high level route. We'll spend most of our time high
above treeline crossing glacial terrain surrounded by breathtaking
mountain scenery. For an advanced skier it really is a "must do" trip,
one that you'll never forget.
eight="187">The
tour begins in Chamonix, France nestled at the foot of Mont Blanc
which at 4,807 meters is the highest mountain in the Alps. Most days
begin with the classic early "alpine start" and finish with our arrival
at a comfortable wardened Alpine hut. These huts, all located in the
midst of spectacular mountain and glacial terrain, serve hearty mountain
food and drink in a warm, cozy and social atmosphere. You'll witness
an amazing mixture of cultures while staying in these huts as you
socialize with ski mountaineers from around world who are also taking
on the challenge of the Haute Route. Our tour will finish in the beautiful
Swiss village of Zermatt. Anyone with any experience climbing or skiing
will be thrilled by the views of the famous Matterhorn towering over
the village. Because you'll be staying in Alpine huts each night you'll
be able to travel during the day with light packs, making the most
of the longest and most amazing ski descents you'll ever do.
eight="164" alt="Off-Piste">The
Haute Route is a tour for skiers with advanced skills who are able
to ski in variable snow conditions. Skiers should be able to ski "off
piste" in all types of ungroomed snow. Also, for our climbs skiers
should be able to execute uphill kick-turns without difficulty. This
is a challenging tour which requires skiers to be in excellent shape
not just for the downhill skiing but also for the uphill sections.
A basic knowledge of general mountaineering techniques is helpful
but not necessary. Any specialized mountaineering techniques required
for this tour can be learned from Chauvin Guides during the first
couple days of the trip. We will meet in Chamonix on the afternoon
or evening before the tour begins to answer questions, begin packing
and finalize other logistics.
