Bonnie Z wins the
Michigan Oaks
August 16th, a special day for Michigan Arabian
racing. This would be the first in many years an
Oaks would be run, this race highlights the young up
and coming horses and is only for 3 & 4 year old
fillies. A special thank you to Sam Vasquez for his
stallion service donation from March to increase the
purse.
Five fillies would go to post, with MW Bonnie Z the
heavy favorite, coming off a win. Shezablessing a
fantastic three year old, trained by Mario Fritz,
bred and owned by Tom and Joyce Fritz of Hickory
Lane Farms, looked outstanding and had never been
off the board in five starts.
As the gates opened three year old, Osaykanyousi
made a short bid to the front but was over taken by
Bonnie Z quickly. Followed by Shezablessing, with
WMA Cherub trained by Matt Bender and owned by Ron
Bender and WMA Bathsheba owned and trained by Tammie
Briggs.
As they came to the stretch, Bonnie Z would pull
always from the group by 5 1/4 lengths to earn her
win number five for the 2008 racing season in
Michigan. She is owned by Svetlana Megley MD of
Texas, trained by Nicole Holst and ridden by Nate
Alcala. She was bred in Texas by Morris Woods
and by the sire KA Czubuthan x MW Sams Metro by
Samtyr.
Rounding out the field Shezablessing second, WMA
Cherub third, WMA Bathsheba fourth and Osaykanyousi
also ran.
Need For Speed wins
the Michigan Derby
Also on August 16th, the Michigan Derby for 3 & 4
year old colts and geldings, would be held. A nice
full field of eight would go to post.
Out of the gates first time starter, Monarkos CS, an
impressive three year old, bred and owned by Eric
and Randi Moreau-Siepiere. Followed by WMA Holy
Fire owned and trained by Lori Roberts. Separated
by just a head, I Know You Know, a four year old
owned by Michael Diercks of Wisconsin. Another head
to Need For Speed with a neck just in front of
Lu-Nor Walor trained by Matt Bend and owned by Ron
Bender of Michigan. Down the back side the group
would stay closely packed.
Into the finial turn the tight group of youngsters
would close the gap on the leader. Around the turn
Need For Speed, owned by Terri Holst of Michigan and
bred and trained by Nicole Holst would take command
and pull away by 8 lengths. Ridden perfectly by
Nate Alcala, this would be the big colts second
stakes win. Running gamely, I Know You Know up for
second also trained by Nicole Holst. An outstanding
charge up from seventh to steal third, Vagus, yet
another rising star bred and owned by Tom and Joyce
Fritz of Hickory Lane Farms and trained by Mario
Fritz. Monarkos CS would hold fourth. Also ran in
this order Lu-Nor Walor, WMA Holy Fire, Northern
Flight and WMA Southwestern.
The Michigan bred, Need For Speed would improve his
race record to 8(4-3-0-1) and is the first runner
for the sire, Aransas HF a Samtyr son bred by
Harizan Arabians in Texas. His dam, the multi
stakes winning Bristol Breeze by Wiking.

is one of the most important things an owner can do, don't
procrastinate, start looking now, a partial list

page. You can see how trainers, owners and horses did
during the 2007 and 2008 season, by going to the
stats page which has all racing
results for the past two years.
We will be publishing information on
Racing in Michigan and how to get involved with the Michigan Bred Program. A few board members are compiling information to share with you. Did you
know in 2007, Michigan bred Arabians were eligible to run for an additional estimated 20,000.00? This is on top of the MPM purses. It's easier than you think to get
involved in this program.
