SARSFIELD's GAA
CLUB
SARSFIELDS GAA Club is extremely proud of the role it has played in
Kildare football since its foundation in 1897.
 Sarsfield's are holders of more records in Kildare football than any
other club and have proved consistant performers at all levels during its proud history.
The club holds the record of seven Kildare senior club championships in a row.
From its humble beginnings of two teams in 1897, Sarsfield's now field over 20
teams in various competitions, catering to camogie, ladies football, under-age teams.
These teams perform with the same pride as the adult male players who still provide the
main body of the club.
The underage section was revitalised during the early eighties, with the
introduction of weekly coaching sessions for youngsters. This caters to children aged 5 to
13 years. In the nineties many young girls have become involved in these sessions. Earlier
this year hurling coaching was re-established with training sessions every Sunday morning.
The aim of all the weekly coaching sessions for the youngsters is to allow them to
enjoy gaelic Games and to develope the skills in a discilpined and enjoyable environment.
The children participate within their own age groups and are regularly brought on trips to
County and Inter-County matches. As well as competing in the North kildare Underage
leagues, they play many friendlies against other clubs.
Girls are catered for throught the camogie and Girls' football sessions which take
place from April to September.
This year Sarsfield's won its first ever MINOR TITLE. The Under 13 Girls Camogie
team were also successful in their grade. The Girls' Under 14 Football team won their
championship in 1995 and there are high hopes for them for the Under 16 Title in Centenary
Year.
The Club's playing facilities have also received awards, with the grounds being
awarded "Best in the County" on a regular basis. On the social scene the
recently refurbished bar and hall areas are equal to any in the county.
