MOOREFIELD'S DEVELOPMENT PLANS
Measured by their future development plans Mooorefield GAA
Club ranks among the very best in the county. The club has unveiled their far reaching
plans to bring them into the new millennium. These plans provide exceptional sporting
facilities, comfortable social facilities and exciting leisure facilities.
FOUNDING FATHERS
 Moorefield GAA Club was founded in 1884, having been previously known as J
J KELLY'S. It is a proud tradition that Moorefield GAA has survived on a continual basis
since its foundation. this is due to the dedication of club officials, loyalty of players
and the unmitigated support of the community. The club celebrated in 1988 when the present
club grounds were officially opened and have continued to grow from strength to strength.
They have now arrived at a time when they need to further develop their facilities to
accommodate the large number of player that they cater to.
POSITIVE POLICY
In the mid eighties the club decided that the future lay in
the development of the under age section. Hence in 1990 a new policy was adopted whereby
the Juvenile club was developed to its full potential. This ensured these players had the
opportunity to advance to the senior panels when the time was right. It is a true
testament to this policy that the club brought home no less than 10 COUNTY TITLES last
year, 5 at JUVENILE LEVEL and 5 at SENIOR LEVEL. There were also numerous inter club
tournaments successes as well as several runner up placings during the year.
COUNTY CONTENDERS
It is a great source of pride for a club when their players
achieve a place on the county panel. Moorefield are delighted to have players of all
levels represented at county level. It is not only on the playing field that they have
representation at this level, they also have several club members serving the County Board
in many capacities.
A BRIGHT FUTURE
At Moorefield GAA Club there are 18 Underage teams in
Football and hurling, 5 underage Camogie teams and 8 adult teams. These total over 500
players. It is to meet the demands of these players that the new development plan was
needed. An additional 10 acres of land was purchased in 1997. Along with present
facilities this will be developed to an exacting standard in a three year project. The
project will be completed on a three year, three year basis starting this year.
PHASE ONE 1998
This phase will see the development of the additional 10
acres of land. This scheme will incorporate a full size playing field, surrounded by
extensive viewing banks. A new second pitch will be a juvenile area with a pitch designed
in such a way that it can be used by all underage groups including camogie teams. This
area will also have viewing banks - all the viewing banks will have wheelchair
accessibility. There will be road access to these pitches and it is also intended to
provide a walkway around the entire perimeter of the grounds.
PHASE TWO 1999
The second phase will be the expansion of the present
playing pitch and the erection of a new viewing stand and viewing banks on the remaining
sides of the field.
PHASE THREE 2000
The third and final phase  of the plan is the
extension of the club house and the provision of greater social and leisure facilities. -
including new dressing rooms, toilets and an innovative baby changing area. Inside the new
complex will be comfortable social facilities, including a spacious lounge area that will
overlook the main playing field. The new leisure area will house an equipped gym with
separate male and female showering facilities. The scheme includes the provision of
outdoor play areas for children as well as outdoor tennis courts.
COUNTING THE COSTS
A fund raising committee is to be set up to raise the
estimated £300,000 it will cost to carry out the plan. Various functions and activities
are in the pipeline and the club are hoping to receive grants from the Central Council of
the GAA and the DoE.
