DCU Ultimate Frisbee Club | We party so hard we win awards! Captain Huck Random Quote: "Ciara, that's a closet...." - Shane/Bear, Cork photo gallery August 28th, 2008 Finally the site's back up and running after the summer, so here's what's been happening in the world of ultimate. Ireland came an awesome 14th in the Open division and 13th in the Women's division at the World Ultimate and Guts Championship in Vancouver this August. The Guts team came a last, but spiritful 8th, while the Women narrowly missed out on the Spirit vote. Woo, go Ireland! You can check out all the results at the WFDF's website Summer league has come and gone for another year, won by the Green team if I remember correctly. The IFDA will be holding the annual Frisbee Awards Ball in the Morrison hotel on the 4th of October. Tickets are €55 and can be got from either Tall Paul or Shimbo. All the info's on the forum Now that all of the old stuff's out of the way, here's the new stuff. Training will be back on from next Wednesday (3rd September) in the park, so express you interest on the forum if you'll be around. And date have been announced for Whacking Day, Edinburgh and Cork (see forum or look to your right for more info). All details will be sorted out soon. Also custom discs will be ordered soon and the jersey's you all payed for last April will be arriving soon. Einstien will be returning from his INtra over in California and will be hosting a "Einey's back in town" party, check the forum for details. Promises to be one awesome party if last year's is anything to go by. That's all for know... May 12th, 2008 Well, after weeks and weeks of Redbrick being down everything's back up and running. Hope everyone's doing well with all the studying and exams and whatnot... And as it stands, Ireland is currently 10th in the ECBU. Apr 23, 2008 AGM and Awards lat night went ahead as expected last night. The agm started out by setting some team goals for next year, and the team has decided to try and hold their seeding in the finals of varsities despite losing so many players. After the goals were set up we went on to the voting of the next years commitee. The roles were Captain - Brian Secretary - Mairead Treasurer - Carmel P.R.O.- Graham Weblord - Chip Equipment Officer - Token 1st year Rep - Fiona Health and Safety Officer - Katie And Most Importantly because of the awe inspiring speech Womens Captain - Donall If iv made any mistakes let me know cause im having a hard time remembering. The awards party was held in the cassa of el pixie and el racy. This started off very quickly and the drink was being drowned. All the awards were given out and also the presents made by shane for the players that are leaving us this year for big and better things. We will miss you all and know you are all like family to me and i would play ultimate with you anywhere. I cant really remember much else, and am still recovering but if anyone has a proper report. Let me know Apr 07, 2008 Well just home from the most awesome tournament ever. DCU brought a very strong team to the Brussels tournament. The tournament was always going to be all about having fun because of the amount of work put in for Intervarsities. The tournament strated on a high as most of us got the ten past six plane out of Dublin. Upon arrival in Brussels the sneaky train was employed to carry myself to Rotterdam to collect some supplies for the weekend. While I was up there the rest of the team discovered a drink called quack which is hard to explain but the photos will show it. The first night party was incredible, with a bar that didnt close till everyone was finished and at one euro a beer ya cant go wrong with that, this also lead to another highlight, "The Dancing Bear", who had to be driven home, and again i believe there is video evidence of this. The accomadation was very odd it was the floor of what can only be described as a multi floor warehouse, but despite random noises and movements coming from The Bear, a good night was had for sleep for all. Next morning we were up for a half nine against the team from Amsterdam, so needless to say everybody was feeling the effects from the night before, and so we started off a tad sluggish, none the less we still managed to pull this game to 13-4 in our favour. Dcu managed to pull of a 100% victory record on the first day of games. And secured us into the quarter finals, which would be Trinity at eleven the next morning. And then it was on to the party. Which involved a ska band or two, and the invention of the new game, which caused numerous sore noses and spilled drinks. The next day started out with DCU -vs- Trinity. And DCU came out swinging and though the match was difficult we secured a victory. I cant remember the score but it was quite close. Some lovely hucks from Pixie to all the receivers, with some beautiful scores by Shouldies. The next match would be Ucd in the semis. This was a very touch match and both teams had a great long game. Two points in particular were pixie hooking it up the middle and myself chasing it down from about half pitch length, and also Super Daves amazing layout grab for a hammer which got an applause from absolutely everybody watching, it was an absolutely amazing grab. Unfortunately DCU could not pull the victory back out of this game and it ended as 11-9 to UCD. In the end DCU ended up taking a very respectable fourth place with Ucd coming second and Trinity taking sixth. We seem to have forgotten the votes for MSP, MVP, MA and DM. So when we get around to that then I will update this accordingly. Highlights of the weekend -Sneaky Train to Rotterdam -Quack -Racy falling asleep in the oddest looking position ever. -Perfect Daves high release impersonation. -The Instrument Game -"Dancing Bear La la la" -Beating Trinity. -Beautiful play from everyone despite copious amounts of drink. -Super Daves layout. -Numerous songs of the weekend -Finding out why Dave is actually dangerous. (it needs to be seen to be believed) Let me know anymore and il put them up too. Apr 01, 2008] Intervarsities 2008 have come and gone, DCU brought two teams to this tournament. DCU1 brought pride to the college taking second place losing only the final match against Trinity 1. The DCU second team didnt have as much luck with victory but we never once lowered our heads which got us the coveted spirit award. Someone email me or text me with DCU 1 highlights so i can update this. Highlights for DCU 2 -Comedy Zone turning over UCD and Galway loads of times. -Mel falling asleep naked on O'Connell street. -45 minute point against Trininty 2 (It never ended twas horrible, but good fun) -Fiona getting her official nickname. DCU 1 Mvp + Msp + Ma MVP - Pixie MSP - Racy MA- ??? (Will update when i find out) DCU 2 Mvp + Msp + Ma MVP - Killer B MSP - Louise MA - Fiona In other news Brussels is this weekend. Everyone please remember to bring all the usuals. Light and Dark t-shirt/jersey. Clothes (optional). Beer money (much needed). And also needed for this tournament is an optional sleeping bag and roll matt because we are sleeping in a sports hall so for your own sake if ya can fit it ya may aswell bring one. Personally I believe sleep is for the week and will be planning on drinking myself into the next day every day. 60% of the time it works all the time. [Mar 03, 2008] Ok everyone hope everyones results came back in the positive results as it should be from a group of legends such as ourselves. The Ultimate Frisbee intervarsities are coming up at the end of this month and the first and second teams have been posted on the forum, so get yourselves onto the forum and do your best to get to training as much as possible. This is sure to be an amazing tournament. Lets play the way we all know we can and do DCU Ultimate proud. [Jan 24, 2008] I know its been a whole month since the last time i updated this yoke. Hope everyones exams went well, and that everyone has had a good christmas break. DCU has its trials for varsities first team coming up soon and also the Brussels trip coming up which at the moment is being discussed on the forum so get on and have a look if your interested. [Dec 06, 2007] Almost time for christmas exams for some people so good luck to everyone who has there exams. I know its been a while since i updated this thing iv been rather busy so aint had a chance. Since i last updated there has been UCD beginners which i was not personally present for so dont know the turn out or placing. Also Winter league is well under way with DCU just after there second round of matches which was against two of the best irish teams the are Johnny Chimpo and Brocolli so to anyone who was there yesterday dont be disheartened by the losses, at least we staye spirits and we did not get bagelled. In other news at last weeks Jabba training myself and paddy came up with quite the idea of a way to insult a certain member of both DCU and Jabba. But hits has developed to a whole new profile idea for this page. I have just finished "obtaining" my very own version of Flash and over the christmas am going to be making flash animations representing all the different players with profiles. Some stories are obvious such as the Bear story, the great atm talking saga, and lightweight puking into his breakfast, chip skying tall paul, and shanes dyer need for help in the search of more Jager. But others are a little more shrouded in mystery and i will need ideas and information for others so if you have a story you want seen animated put it on the forum with the member and the story. Hopefully il have them all done by the end of the christmas holidays. [Nov 05, 2007] Cork Open is done and gone, I only arrived down after the games on saturday to find a beaten but still cheerful team of Captain Huck. After defeats by Johnny Chimpo(who went on to win in an asolutely amazing final.) Bologne and Trinity 1. But soon after the party was to begin which saw snow white(lana) and her seven deadly dwarves making their way to the place of beer and merryment. The party proved to be amazing great music some fantastic costumes(mine being just painful) and some people forgetting absolutely everything. Unfortunately i missed the party on Friday night were some "unnamed" person had a full blown conversation with an atm machine. But I was happy enough and when Journey the last song of the evening came on DCU brought the dancefloor to whole new levels of fun. With the party gone it was up for quarter past eight for the first match of Sunday. Against Delux from luxemburg. Dcu were tired and hungover and the teams traded points for the first 3 or 4 points until luxemburg started to pull forward a few. At 7-3 the opposing team were still arguing with each other so we did what Dcu dp best. We sang and we danced and we cheered out players on who began to play some amazing ultimate and brang it back at point cap to 8-8. Unfortunately a very luckily thrown flick to the end zone secured Delux the first game of the day. Next up was Ucc 1. After playing amazingly last game DCU spirits were all high and came out this game on fire. Amazing cuts in all directions left the Cork defence lost and we went quickly up to 8-3. Then Ucc went on a big offensive and began bringing it back. I cant remeber the final score but it ended up tied at point cap again and a beautiful cut from blonde from handling with a full length flick to the end by pixie secured Dcu the game. And that was DCU into the plate final against Ego. The pickup of the day which included are beloved friends Dan and Tall Paul. A very strong line up for this team some great handlers like warrior and dan with some amazing cutters like the previously unseen Superman playing incredibly strong in all aspects. the match began and from the start with two strong games under our belt we began strong. It was 8-3 when the unthinkable happened though. A dazzling cut from chip broke past his defender as he dashed for the end zone. Think it was Dave handling who saw him and threw a perfect flick which seemed to glide the whole way down. Suddenly a loming figure arrived beside Chip as tall paul arrived out of nowhere. Everyone became disheartened until suddenly Chips beard lit a blaze and two swans seemed to carry Chip above the once unskyable Tall Paul and directly into the disk. The crowd on both sides erupted as chip landed. Pure beauty. It was a great game and Dcu won the plate final second year in a row. THe score board was far in difference but it was a much closer game than that said. So fair play to Blonde Pixie Ciara Bear Dangerous Dave Oddjob Mairead Giggles Foxi Chip Stefan Slown Lana Einstein Shane Myself(killer b) Who should all be very proud of the way they played for what I saw. MVP went to Pixie MSP went to Stefan(and no stefan that does not mean most sexiest player) [Oct 24, 2007] Edinburugh trip begins on friday and we have a great showing as always. Good luck to all the beginners that are going. Its a great tournament and what a party afterwards. Make sure to take lots of photos so that the rest of us can have some enjoyment from it aswell. In other news Cork is next weekend aswell. So far we have a list of 14 people saying they will go. We need to get onto the kinlay house and book a room as soon as possible. If possible before the end of this week. Someone with a credit card who can pay 10% of the total booking fee. [Oct 09, 2007] So first official training session of the season yesterday and a pretty good turn out. Any photos from the training or the post training session send them along and il post them up no matter how embarressing to me they may be. [Sep 25, 2007] Hey there everyone hope everyone is starting to settle back into the college spirit and ready for a hopefully strong ultimate year. First thing first though with Clubs and Socs day coming up there needs to be a strong ultimate presence around college, so whether it be a simple throw about, a game of disk golf or even a match anyone up for it just send a text or even post it on the forum. Hopefully grab a bit of attention. [May 29, 2007] What up peeps? Just a quick bit about what's goin' on this week. On Thurday, there'll be disc golf in the park, or weather dependant a trip to the beach for some beach-ultimate-fun. With drinks during/afterwards. Check the forum for more info. Friday sees the beginning of another fun weekend with the DUB Hat tourny. On Friday there's pre-tourny drinking in the Living Room on Cathal Brugha Street. €10 Pictchers? How can you say no...? Satuday's the beach portion of the touny on a nice little funky beach in Sutton. The Saturday party's in Messers on the quays. The theme is 70's/80's... It's going to be awesome to the max. Sunday's the grass half of the tourny over in Grangegorman. Should be a good way to get rid of the hangover. It's only €10 (€5 per day), so if you haven't already, sign up. It's gonna be great. [May 11, 2007] Just lettin everyone know I backed up the system today instead of restored it. ha ha ha. So hope everyone has been studying hard for their exams. If not congratulations your a multimedia student. But on a serious note. Extreme merryment is in order once exams are finished. All in favour say "I" on the forums that is. [April 26, 2007] Right seems my first act as weblord didnt go down so well. I seem to have backed the forum back by exactly a month. Sorry everyone. Myself and chip went looking for a way to fix it but didnt have much luck. Eh dont really know what to say except sorry [April 26, 2007] Right just thought id make my first announcement as the new weblord. Iv finally gotten off my arse and decided to log into this thing. Howya. And just to let everyone officially know that our good friend paddy is officially a woman beater, with his miraculous possible breaking of Dee's nose today after a game of guts. [April 6, 2007] It's nice and sunny out, and I don't want to be sitting on front of a computer, so I'll be quick. The AGM was held on Tuesday and here's the new comittee: Captain - Shane Secretary - Chip Coach - Blonde Rob Treasurer - Mairead PRO - Foxie Equipment Manager - Dangerous Dave First Year Reps - Mel and Louise Health & Safety Officer - Sarah International Correspondant - Connie Weblord - Killer B And big props to the outgoing committee for all the work they did over the past year. And big thanks to Blonde for throwing the Awards Party/Barbque which was awesome to the max... Now for the new stuff. We're trying to organise a trip over the weekend to the beach for a little Beach Ultimate. So keep an eye on the forum to get the details. [April 2, 2007] Right peeps, the AGM is tomorrow in CG03 in the Henry Grattan at 6pm to elect a new comittee and all the other things that happen at AGM's. And afterwards, we'll all be off to Blonde Rob's BBBQ (the extra B is for BYOB), and more importantly the Frisbee Awards! And there are some hotly contested awards (Woman Shark for example...). Should be a good evening all in all, so prepare yourselves! [March 31, 2007] If you haven't voted for the Frisbee Awards yet, get voting now. Only 2 days left to decide who gets these coveted awards... The awards will be taking place eveningish, in Blonde's house (on Collins Avenue) on Tuesday 3rd April, with (weather permitting) a barbque. Keep an eye on the forum for more details. Also the Club AGM will be taking place the same day during the afternoon, more than likely in a room in the Henry Grattan building, so keep an eye out on the forum for that as well. That's all for now.... [March 26, 2007] Well, intervarsities have come and gone. After a quiet night on Friday (or a messy night for some), DCU took to the pitches on Saturday against Trinity 1, Cork 1, Limerick and The Uni-No Stars, losing only to Trinity and managing to beat Cork 1 in an amazing match which saw the teams trading points back and forth, with DCU eventually coming out on top. The Saturday night party was themed "Computer Games" and saw some interesting costumes like Pac-Man and accompanying Ghost. On Sunday morning DCU were up against Galway, UCD and Cork 1 (again). In the end DCU came 3rd overall, which is 2 places higher than last year, so big props to: Blonde Pixie Pete Bear Einstein Shane Foxie Liz Shoulders Ciara Hugh And well done to Pete for winning MVP. 'twas one good weekend all in all. The Annual Frisbee awards will be taking place on Tuesday in Blonde Rob's House over on Collins Avenue. The AGM will be on that day aswell during the day so keep an eye out on the forum for times. In the mean time you can get voting for the awards here. That's all for now. [March 14, 2007] I'm wrecked from training, so this will be short... There'll be training on Friday as normal, and weather dependant we can have it outdoors in the park (since outdoors is "awesome to the max"). So be there... [March 12, 2007] There'll be a friendly against Trinity up in their astropitch in Santry next Tuesday (the 20th) so sign up on the forum if you're up for it. Should be good practice for intervarsities. Speaking of which, intervarsities themselves are fast approaching (only a week and a half to go). So prepare to take Limerick by storm people! If anyone is still interested in playing, DCU and UCD are forming a combined second team (DCUCD 2), so get your name down for that on the forum. That's all the news I've got for now... Laters. [March 06, 2007] Well, the Sligo Wig of Shame has come and gone, and all I can say is what a weekend it was! Friday saw the train journey down with UCD and DIT and the usual Friday night bar madness that everyone has come to expect at this stage. Saturday saw the might of DCU1 take on UCD2, BUG and the Sligo Grads while DCU2 took on Pookas, The Golden Oldies (who would go on to win the final) and DIT2. With both teams a little fuzzy from the night before both teams took a hit in the standing but spirits were high. The party, who's theme was "Your Favorite Band" saw an unholy amount of Jager and Tequila (sometimes at the same time), and some interesting costumes such as the B-Sharps, D12 and Kiss amongst others. Sunday saw DCU up at 9 o'clock (hangovers and all) to see DCU2 take on Galway and Limerick, with DCU coming out on top, and the first appearance of Paddy's behind-the-back scoober during the UL game for a score! DCU1 took on Sligo 2, unfortunately losing, but this meant the clash of DCU1 vs. DCU2 for a place in the Plate Final. After trading point for point for 10 minutes, DCU1 eventually took the lead to give them a shot at the plate, but ended up losing out the UCD1. The final standings were DCU1 - 9th, DCU2 - 10th, with DCU2 winning Spirit. Plenty of storys came from the weekend, such as the many hospital visits, the Apache dance-off and the side-line heckling... That's all I gots for now... More later. [February 08, 2007] Some news to report... The friendly against DIT has been called off, but there'll still be pickup going on in Herbert Park, so if you're up for playing on Sunday head on over. Stick your name down on the Irish Ultimate Forum, and start counting down the hours. But if you can't wait until then, there will hopefully be a friendly match against UCD on their famed "I-can't-believe-it's not-grass" Pitch. Check out the forum for the info. That is all. [February 05, 2007] Well, 'tis official. The spring is here because the winter league is over. Two hard fought matches against DIT and Trinity made this probably the hardest day so far. The match against DIT ended 11 - 7 in our favor, but then a mixture of tiredness and a strong Trinity side meant we couldn't keep up, and it finished 4 - 8 to Trinity. That leaves DCU in 5th place over all. A fair improvement on last year's result. Here's how the league ended up: 1. Broccoli 6-0 2. UCD 5-1 3. Trinity 4-2 4. UCC 3-3 5. DCU 2-4 6. DIT 1-5 7. Gonzaga 0-6 Now for the new stuff. We're hoping to have a friendly against DIT in Grangegorman on Sunday. If you're up for it, stick your name down here. Keep signing up for Sligo and Intervarsities. And don't forget the Frisbee Ball is coming up soon. Get your tickets from Pixie (40 euro) and get cleaning the vomit from your tux that you only wear once a year... It's time to party, Ron Burgandy style. [January 31, 2007] Calling all Huckers! the Sligo Wig of Shame is fast approaching... Stick your name down here for what is next to Edinburgh and Cork, the best tournament around. There's nothing like drinking in the west... A little sooner than that, is the 3rd and final round in the Winter League. All those up for it, post up, then show up on Sunday for another good few hours of ultimate in the wintry hell that is Shankill. And waaay off into the future is Intervarsities down in the lovely Limerick. More information here... I'm done. Now it's off to the bar. [January 30, 2007] Exams are over, our week off is well underway, and I finally find time to update this... Let's the good times roll. UCD Beginners tournae was last weekend, seeing DCU come a sweet 5th place out of 12 after another encounter with DIT in out last match. And a surprising final between schools (yes, that's right) with Colasite Eoin beating Gonzaga for 1st place. So, well done to: Dan Foxi Mel Mairead Dave Shane Bear Hilary Pixie Paddy and me, Chip. MVP - Foxi MSP - Mel, Dan and Pixie. 2 weekends ago saw Winter League Round 2 with us playing UCD and Gonzaga, with UCD managing to win after a point cap. And DCU showing good form against Gonzaga. Here's how everythin' ended up: Broccoli 13 - 2 DIT Broccoli 12 - 4 Trinity Cork 1 - 8 Trinity Cork 8 - 7 DIT DCU 13 - 1 - Gonzaga DCU 6 - 8 UCD Gonzaga 2 - 11 UCD This leaves the standings at: Broccoli 4 - 0 (+44) UCD 4 - 0 (+22) Cork 3 - 1 (+4) Trinity 2 - 2 (+1) DCU 1 - 3 (-6) DIT 0 - 4 (-25) Gonzaga 0 - 4 (-38) [January 10, 2007] Merry New Year everyone... It's been a quiet Christmas ultimate-wise, but we're back now for another year. Now what little news I have for y'all. On Sunday the Winter League kicked off with a bang seeing DCU play UCC and Broccoli. The match against Cork started off promising, but after a long, low-scoring game, and a few unlucky passes on DCU's behalf Cork ended up winners. The Broccoli match was unlucky as Broccoli has a very strong side out, which left DCU pointless (though there were a few close ones). Here's how it ended up: Broccoli 13 - 1 Gonzaga Broccoli 13 - 0 DCU Cork 6 - 3 DCU Cork 10 - 3 Gonzaga UCD 8 - 0 DIT DIT 4 - 9 Trinity UCD 9 - 6 Trinity The standings: Broccoli 2 - 0 (+25) UCD 2 - 0 (+11) Cork 2 - 0 (+10) Trinity 1 - 1 (+2) DIT 0 - 2 (-13) DCU 0 - 2 (-16) Gonzaga 0 - 2 (-19) That's the old stuff, now for the new stuff. The Frisbee Ball has been announced for the 16th of February in the Mont Clare Hotel. Check the forum for details. Also, a little sooner, on the 20th of January is the IFDA's "I can't believe it's not Christmas" Party, so stay tuned for info. Apparently it'll be "anywhere but Doyles", so we'll see what happens. **** For older news stuff, check out the archive section **** Valid HTML and CSS | Admin Login | Last updated: Thursday, 28th August, 2008
