Learn the basics or fine tune your surfing with a lesson at the Gwithian Academy of Surfing. On the surf coaching staff this year is a top quality body-boarder and surfer, an experienced female surf coach and the present British Junior Team Surf Coach. A lesson at our surf school can help you achieve your surfing goals.
The Gwithian Academy of Surfing is a British Surfing Association Approved Level 4 (the highest possible approval rating) surf school that operates from Gwithian - the Northernmost point of St Ives Bay - and is very close to the towns of Hayle and St Ives.
Gwithian is the perfect venue for surf lessons for a number of reasons.
Due to the gently sloping nature of the beach the surf forms and breaks very slowly giving aspiring surfers more time to get to their feet.
Owing to the generous 'fetch' of the Atlantic Ocean Gwithian Beach gets rideable surf year round.
Thanks to the Gulf Stream and the natural heat retaining properties of St Ives Bay the sea water is comparatively warm.

The surf school is run from a purpose built beach-side location where we can offer changing facilities, an excellent classroom for teaching surfing theory, video feedback and ample parking.
The Gwithian Academy of Surfing sits alongside our shop which is full of the surfing equipment that will take your surfing to the next level whether it be a bar of wax or a custom surfboard and we are now a one stop shop for all your surfing needs.
All the equipment you will need such as wetsuits and surfboards are of the finest quality and safe for use by beginners and experts of any age group. Our surf school is proud to have a 90% success rate for getting our students 'up and riding' in the first lesson.
Our surf school instructors are Fully Qualified Lifeguards as well as being recognised by the British Surfing Association as Surfing Coaches.
