the regulation height is 5'9" from the ground and the best way
to measure the distance is by the diagonal and that is 9' 7 3/8"
from the center of the bullseye to the floor.
For a bristle dartboard (steel-pointed darts), the official (ADO
& World Darts Federation) throwing distance is 2.37 meters, as
measured along the floor, from the plane of the face of the dartboard.
In feet, this is 7 feet, 9-1/4 inches. The height of the board, to
the center of the bull, is 173 centimeters, or 5 feet, 8 inches.
There are more technical aspects to measuring if the floor is off-level,
etc., but these are the basic measurements.
For Soft-Tip darts, the toe line is set at 8 feet.

Actually this one should be 9 feet + 7 and 3/8ths inches from
center of the double bull to the FRONT edge of the shooter's line.
The line should be marked to indicate the center point that is
lined up with the double bull, and should be no MORE than 18"
to each side of the center marking.
There should also be a 6" clearance to each side of the throwing
line for comfort sake.

This is measured from the face of the board to the front edge of
the line and should be 7 feet + 9 & 1/4th inches exactly. I usually
measure this one from 3 different oints on the board at the wire number
11, the wire number 6, and the center bull to be sure at least that
the line is straight in front of the board itself.

Yes, that's true for soft tip darts - a maximum of 8 feet total
to the front edge of the shooter's line, altough I only shoot steel
tip - it has been asked enough here to remember that one.
