After Czechoslovakia broke up in 1992, the national team was reformed, playing its first match on October 14, 1992, a 1-0 victory against Lithuania at Vilnius.Slovakia reached the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification playoff, where it lost to Spain.[edit] European Championship record1960 to 1992 - see Czechoslovakia1996 to 2008 - Did not qualifySlovakia got off to a flying start in their Euro 2008 qualification campaign, recording emphatic 6-1 and 5-1 victories over Cyprus and Wales respectively. However, the side's qualification hopes began to peter out thereafter after damaging defeats at the hands of Germany and the Republic of Ireland. The Fighting Jondas' chances of qualification were mathematically ended by an embarrassing 5-2 reversal at home to Wales. They did however complete the qualifying session with 33 goals scored- the second highest scorers behind Germany, who scored 35.Sep 02, 06 Slovakia 6-1 CyprusSep 06, 06 Slovakia 0-3 Czech Rep.Oct 07, 06 Wales 1-5 SlovakiaOct 11, 06 Slovakia 1-4 GermanyMar 24, 07 Cyprus 1-3 SlovakiaMar 28, 07 Rep.
