DALVÍK RULES THE DAY
A magnificent defensive performance by the Dalvík boys secured their promotion to the Úrvalsdeild in a very hard-fought battle at ÍR-vollur on Friday. The visitors who had won the first of the two play-off legs by a narrow 2-1 margin, relied heavily on one of the most famed defenses in Division One, which did not let them down this time either. ÍR were unable to hit the net, and with only four goal attempts were deservedly knocked out of the top league.

ÍBV is the title winner of the 2006 season in Úrvalsdeild.
The islanders came down to a 1-0 away defeat at Akureyrarvöllur, but despite a FH away win at Keflavík against the already relegated Mariners, the Knights were unable to catch up with the leaders.
Four years of team building proved to pay off, ÍBV taking their first U-21 title since six years. A team which had constantly been in the top flight for the recent decade, finally proved their dominance thanks to a well-maintained balance between attacking style and firm defense.Elsewhere, ÍA took the bronze after a convincing 3-0 win over Leiknir, and secured next season’s participation in the European tournaments. Leiknir and Keflavík were relegated, and ÍR remained in a play-off position, and will have to play Dalvík.Fylkir missed a chance to qualify for a European position, despite a difficult away victory against tough Fram. The dramatic CocaCola Cup defeat in the final, where Fylkir lost to KR on penalties, means that the Flames will remain at home next summer.

KR GRABS FIRST TROPHY IN FIVE YEARS
Stuck into a promotion battle involving some of the toughest members of 1.deild, Dalvík and Breiðablik both fought hard to only reach draws. Dalvík were held at home by stubborn opponents Leiftur, while Blik survived far away from home against Egilsstaðir. The single points and the slightly better goal difference granted the latter a direct promotion, while Dalvíkar will have to face battered ÍR in two unpredictable encounters.
Previously, the absolute dominant power in Icelandic junior football, KR have been struggling to compete on level terms with some of the best clubs in the recent years. Once again, Gunnar Þórbjörnsson’s lads remained out of the top three positions after the end of the 2006 Úrvalsdeild season. But all the failures were compensated by a sweet victory in the CocaCola Cup tournament. After a well-performed campaign which saw the Reykjavík team eliminate stubborn Árborg, the tough tournament fighters Þór and one of the most powerful teams in Úrvalsdeild, ÍA, as well as the absolute sensation in the tournament, Seyðisfjörður, KR tamed Fylkir in the final and won through penalties, Larús Þór Matíasson saving two shots from the spot.
