Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary home page Sanctuary donates three colts to the McCrossan Boys Ranch! The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary is pleased to donate three mustang colts to the McCrossan Boys Ranch in Sioux Falls for use in their horse therapy program for troubled boys. “We would like to see this as an ongoing program of sending some of our mustang colts to the McCrossan Boys Ranch. We like the work they do,” says Susan Watt, Program Coordinator of the Sanctuary. These three colts are part of about 100 babies born every year that are sold through the Sanctuary’s Horses Helping Horses Program to help support the main wild horse herd. The Black Hills Wild Horses Sanctuary located near Hot Springs, South Dakota, is currently home to nearly 500 wild horses on 11,000 acres of pristine prairie land. The program, founded in 1988 by conservationist and author Dayton O. Hyde, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.Between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors enjoy tours through the wild horse herds annually. Tour fees, grants, donations, gift shop and rental cabin income, gifts and bequests are other important means of support for the sanctuary.McCrossan Boys Ranch is a private non-profit organization that reaches out to troubled boys between the ages of ten and eighteen who have experienced conflict in their lives. By working on values, goals, education and skills they prepare our boys to live a balanced life outside the Ranch. They also provide the boys with one-on-one counseling as well as specialized educational services so they can heal and grow intellectually. For more than 50 years, McCrossan Boys Ranch has changed the lives of many young boys. It is their goal to continue that success of providing New Hope for a Better Life for many, many years to come. For more information on the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary please contact Watt at 605-745-7494. For more information on the McCrossan Boys Ranch please call (605) 339-1203. The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary is Home to America's Largest Wild Horse Herd!Over 500 wild horses including American Spanish Mustangs, Sulphur and Kiger Mustangs, herds from State Governments, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service land make their home on 11,000 acres in the pristine Black Hills of South Dakota. The wild horse herds graze on prairie grasses and water in the Cheyenne River that winds thru wild canyon lands in the heart of it. The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, founded by Dayton O. Hyde, is about helping any wild horse in need! Support for the wild horse herds comes from revenues generated from visitors each year, gift shop sales, grants, donations, foal sales from the herd horses: which include wild horse foals, mustang foals and foals from the registered AQHA, and APHA bands.
