We are based in Bath, Somerset (UK) and our membership is made up of football referees (active and former referees) in the city of Bath and the surrounding area. The Society is currently in its 100th year and we will be celebrating our Centenary in March 2008. Details to follow.
Monthly meetings are held at Twerton Park (home of Bath City FC) on the last Thursday of each month, commencing at 7.45pm. Members and non-members are welcome.Click here for map
We are a Member of the Referees' Association and are affiliated to Somerset Football Association. Our membership numbers around 40 from all levels of refereeing.
The format of meetings is such that we begin by dealing with "business" (Society issues or matters arising from our refereeing activities and our membership/affiliation to other football bodies such as Leagues, RA, FA). After replenishing glasses and participating in Roy's Raffle, we then hear from a guest speaker or hold a quiz / discussion. Meetings are informal occasions where anyone is welcome and where referees seek to support and help each other with important practical guidance, ensuring that we are fully equipped to deal with all aspects of the game. Recent speakers have included George McCaffery (Wiltshire County Training Officer) and Dr Ken Bray (Bath University).
Each season we run a Coaching Course to train new referees. Please do get in touch with us if you are interested.
The Society also holds a number of social events over the course of the season and we compete against other Somerset Referees' Societies in quizzes and at skittles.
We are fortunate in that our President, Terry Mitchell, is also a Blue Badge Guide in the City of Bath. Terry holds an annual walk each summer to regale us with insights into the local history of our area. In recent years these have included a themed guided walk on Brunel in Bath, as well as walks in central Bristol and Bradford-on-Avon.
Above all, we are football referees because we love and enjoy football. The aim of our meetings and activities is to enhance the support we can give to the local game.
