Phantoms Name a New General Manager 
The newly crowned AIFA champs have made some front office changes. As of Aug. 11, 2008 they announced that recently retired player Preston Johnson is the new General Manager. Mr. Johnson has been with the Phantoms since the team entered the league in 2006 as a player. Ms. Barbara Spigner feels she found the right person to lead her team into the future. when asked about his new position, Mr. Johnson said "It's a blessing. I'm glad Ms. Spigner has seen something in me to give me this great opportunity. With Ms. Spigner behind me, I know we will have another successful 2009 season. It also helps when you have a mentor like Bennie King that will give me any advise I may need about different issues that might come about." A team exec says, "Mr. Johnson brings a lot to the table, He's has a very strong business back ground. Put that with his knowledge of the game, I can truly see why he's the right person for the job."
Phantom 2009 Season Tickets Now on Sale
Phantom fans may now order their 2009 Season Tickets for the Florence Phantoms by calling 843-432-5425.Season ticket holders from the 2008 season will have first priority in renewing their current seats until October 1, 2008. On Thursday, October 2, all seats that are not renewed by current season ticket holders will be available for public sale. New season ticket holders can purchase 2009 season tickets as long as the seats they want to purchase are not currently held by a season ticket holder. We are also offering an early bird special for those who renew or purchase season tickets by September 1, 2008.They will receive a commemorative T-shirt from this year’s 2008 AIFA Champions the Florence Phantoms.

Florence Phantoms Win AIFA Crown
FLORENCE, South Carolina (June 26, 2008) – The Florence Phantoms had a0Asecret. By keeping that secret, the Phantoms were able to win the AIFA crown with a 48-12 victory over the Wyoming Cavalry in AIFA Bowl II.
The secret regarded the physical condition of the Phantoms' explosive quarterback, Omar Jacobs. Only the Phantoms knew that Jacobs had suffered a broken thumb on his throwing hand in a 52-37 victory at Reading two weeks earlier. Only the Phantoms knew that Jacobs would have difficulty consistently throwing the deep pass.
Despite that, Jacobs used an effective combination of short and mid-range passes to keep Wyoming off balance, while the Phantoms' offensive line held the Cavalry defense at bay. Jacobs was rewarded for his efforts by being named the game's MVP.
“He was playing with a broken thumb,” Phantoms' coach Tavares Bowens disclosed to This Week i n the AIFA following the game. “He toughed it out. He is a true champion.”
What wasn't a secret was the play of the Phantoms' defense, which turned in one of the most overpowering performances in the young league's history. The Florence defensive unit shut down the Cavalry's powerful offense, which had marched over opponents with a league-leading 64.8 point-per-game average during the regular season.
Defensive back Larry Thompson picked off three Matt Strand passes, as the Phantoms' defensive line applied relentless pressure. Only a Wyoming TD on the final play of the game kept the Cavalry from finishing the game with a single-digit score.

BALTIMORE, Maryland (July 13, 2008) - For the second consecutive year, the Florence Civic Center in Florence, South Carolina will serve as the site for the AIFA Bowl. This year, however, the Florence Phantoms will be in the the AIFA's championship game, courtesy of their 52-37 victory over the Reading Express Saturday night.
The Phantoms had to overcome one of the most challenging road environments in the league. The Express had not lost at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania in the last 19 games. But Florence seized early control of the game, building a 20-point lead midway through the second quarter and taking the crowd out of the game.
Phantoms' quarterback Omar Jacobs fired five touchdown passes for the winners, who built their current win streak to nine straight games. They have also won 10 of their last 11 contests. The Phantoms haven't lost on the road since May 3rd, a 40-39 loss at Mississippi.
Express quarterback Rob Flowers was intercepted three times, including a pickoff by the Phantoms' Larry Thompson that was returned 29 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Compounding the problems for the Express, explosive wide receiver Carmelo Ocasio had to sit out much of the second half due to recurring back problems.
The key moment of the game occurred in the third quarter, with the Phantoms leading by 11 points. The Express moved the ball to the Florence one yard line with a first down. But three straight rushing attempts by Flowers were all stopped short of the goal line, and a high snap on fourth down derailed the scoring opportunity for Reading.
Statistically, the game was quite close. Jacobs and Flowers threw for an identical 235 yards, and Florence had just two more yards of total offense (259-257). Neither team fumbled the ball.
The Phantoms will now await the winner of the AIFA Western Conference title game between the Mississippi Mudcats and the Wyoming Cavalry. The game will be played Friday night at the Casper Events Center at 7:30PM MDT. The winning team will face the Phantoms on Friday, July 25th, at 7:30PM EDT.
The AIFA will provide additional coverage of both the Conference Playoffs through its upcoming edition of This Week in the AIFA. The weekly radio program will be available Wednesday evening (July 16th) for download through two web sites, www.aifaprofootball.com and www.oursportscentral.com.
