Lidge earns himself contract extension

Sometimes, a change of scenery is all it takes. Brad Lidge (RHP, PHI) has reprised his “lights out” days of a few years ago this season in Philadelphia, and his reward is a three-year, $37.5 million contract extension. His numbers this year have been staggering, and his skill set is nearly as dominant as it was before the 2005 playoffs:

The double-digit Dominance Rates never went away, but Lidge spent the past two years feeling the wrath of bad fortune. He didn’t help himself with elevated Control Rates, but ill-timed hits led to depressed Strand Rates and more balls left the yard than was normal for him, as evidence by career-worst hr/fb ratios. This year, the walks are down a bit, but more than that, it’s the devastating duo of strikeouts and grounders. Clearly, the slider is working and he’s keeping the ball down. His ERA won’t stay sub-1.00, but Lidge is definitely back.
